Hamilton Commission adds Whitmarsh, among others

Lewis Hamilton had announced at the start of the season in June that, along with the Royal Academy of Engineering, he would be forming a commission to conduct research aimed at making motorsport diverse and multicultural. He said in June, “Despite my success in the sport, the institutional barriers that have kept F1 highly exclusive persist. It is not enough to point to me, or to a single new black hire, as a meaningful example of progress. Thousands of people are employed across this industry and that group needs to be more representative of society.”
He has now announced the members of this commission. Notable names in the commission include Martin Whitmarsh, former Team Principal and CEO of McLaren and Tracey Crouch MP, former Sports Minister of the UK and British Conservative Party politician.
With these high power names in the commission, it remains to be seen what recommendations the commission will deliver to the FIA and motorsports in general.
Hamilton has called out teams, including his own, to commit to more diverse hiring. With the commission, he is looking to enact more lasting change in the sport, beyond his own influence.
This commission will run for another 8 months, ending in June 2021.

Stefano Domenicali to replace Chase Carey as CEO from 2021 on

Formula 1 and Liberty Media announced today that Stefano Domenicali would take over as the new CEO of F1 from January 1st of the new year, with current CEO Chase Carey stepping back, although he will continue with F1 as non-executive Chairman.
Domenicali joined Ferrari in 1991, straight out of university, and became team principal in 2007, taking over from Jean Todt. In his first year with the team, he oversaw what is currently the team’s last world championship, the Constructors’ title, in 2008. He remained with the team until 2014.
Since leaving the team, he has served as the CEO of Lamborghini, while also acting as the President of the FIA’s Single Seater Commission, working to develop regulations for the FIA single seater series.
Chase Carey is stepping down after notably getting all 10 teams to sign the new Concorde Agreement last month, ensuring the participation of the teams for the future.
Domenicali enters the role with the support of every Team Principal. “I am thrilled to join the Formula 1 organization, a sport that has always been part of my life,” said Domenicali at formula1.com, “I was born in Imola and live in Monza. I’ve remained connected to the sport through my work with the Single Seater Commission at the FIA and I look forward to connecting with the teams, promoters, sponsors and many partners in Formula 1 as we continue to drive the business ahead.”

Track and Tech Talk

As we head into the Russian GP, let’s take a look at the tires that Pirelli have brought to the weekend. They have brought the three softest compounds possible, the C3, C4 and the C5 tires, one step softer than last year. The asphalt at the Sochi Autodrome is very soft, and this usually means less wear on the tires. Also, the weather is generally mild in temperature and with the lack of high-load, high-speed corners, the softest tires make sense.
High winds over the weekend could cause some problems for the drivers, especially near the long semi circle Turn 3. With gusts at 40 kph at times, the wind could cause problems for drivers trying to keep the traction down. The mild temperatures and long straights are a massive detriment to the cooling of the brakes potentially leading to many lock-ups on track, especially braking into Turn 7 and Turn 15.
Tire temperatures are also going to be a challenge, with temperatures fluctuating wildly throughout a lap. Grip is bound to be an issue, so we expect to see drivers complain of understeer and a lack of grip.
Several teams have brought updated aero packages to Sochi, with Ferrari and McLaren running new packages for the weekend. Ferrari are looking to stop the bleeding and bring some stability to the car on a power-sensitive track. McLaren have a full aero update, with new front nose and rear wings for the weekend.
After software issues afflicted Max Verstappen at the start of the last race at Mugello, this weekend, Honda announced that they would be bringing new PU components to the race weekend. They are changing the software and electronics packages, not the parts, so the team won’t suffer penalties as a result of the change.
The FIA has continued their crack down on policing track extensions, with Turn 2 being heavily regulated. Any driver that exceeds the turn has to pass the double bollards, then clear the orange bollard and then rejoin the track. Also, the Stewards will be looking at drivers driving too slowly at turns 12 and 13 to get a clear lap.

FP1

As is usual with the first F1 session of a race weekend, Free Practice 1 began with installation laps for most teams. Amongst the first drivers out on track in the session, Valtteri Bottas soon began to light up the timing screens, setting a 1:37.313 to go fastest so far, on the medium compound tire. This was half a second clear of his illustrious teammate, who at the time was on the hard tires.
Meanwhile, over at McLaren, Lando Norris tested a new nose, as McLaren pursues an aggressive aero program in order to retain third in the championship. According to McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl from the pit wall, the Racing Points are faster this weekend, and Renault is also setting an impressive pace, so this battle is far from over.
However, the new aero testing program was hampered by a crash for Norris’s teammate Carlos Sainz. Approaching turn 7 at speed, the Spaniard got a kick of oversteer on the kerb and spun, hitting the wall with the back end of the car, damaging the rear wing and crash structure. This triggered a brief virtual safety car, while Sainz limped back to the pits. At around the same time, Daniil Kyvat spun at turn 15, but no damage was done.
When the session went green again, Hamilton in the Mercedes was first out, locking his cold brakes on his first flying lap into turn 2 and ruining a set of new hard tires.
However, shortly afterwards, Nicholas Latifi binned his Williams FW43 at turn 10, in a similar accident to Sainz, failing to catch oversteer and backing into the barrier. This brought out a red flag while the car was recovered and the tecpro barrier positions were reset.
After the session restarted, qualifying sims on soft tires were the order of the day, with Bottas going fastest ahead of Ricciardo and Verstappen. World championship leader Lewis Hamilton sat down in 19th, almost 2.8 seconds off his teammate, but hadn’t set competitive times on soft tires, focusing instead on hard tire runs.
Farther down the order in P9 and P11, the Scuderia are in need of a bounce back, after a few tough weekends. A double points finish in Mugello has done little to plaster over a dramatic loss of form - but will Sochi suit the SF1000 more than the likes of Spa and Monza did?

FP2

With the VSC period and a red flag in FP1, the teams headed back to the track to get some more data for the race, especially concerning the pace of the cars on higher fuel loads. The brakes caused many problems in FP1 and it continued in FP2.
Bottas cleared the session faster than anyone for the second time running, a 1:33.519, 0.267 ahead of his teammate, on the soft C5 tire. The duo split their programs, rarely running the same tire. The Finn ran his hard tires for 19 laps, showing that a medium to hard strategy may work nicely on Sunday.
Hamilton, meanwhile, ran the medium tires out today, posting 18 laps on them to test the limits of the compound. He locked up repeatedly at turn 13, flatspotting multiple tires in the process. The two traded fastest times throughout the day, a second clear of the rest of the field, so the car looks to be, once again, top class.
McLaren continued with their aero program, with a new nose on Norris’ car and new aero packages for Sainz. The duo put up solid laps on all three compounds, with the duo finishing 4th and 5th best in the session with Sainz setting a 1:34.723 and Norris just over a tenth back.
Verstappen didn’t have an easy day, spinning his car in the third sector and complaining of a lack of grip in the car. Together, him and his teammate Alex Albon completed over 30 laps on the medium tire, so we could be expecting a push on the mediums in Q2 tomorrow to start the race on mediums.
The Ferrari pitwall had some cause for concern, as Leclerc bumped his bargeboards on the sausage kerbs at turn 12, causing them to vibrate hard. Vettel locked up his tires violently into turn 15, showing that the brake issues are affecting the future Aston Martin driver as well. They completed good stints on the hard and medium tires to end up in P8 and P10 for FP2, both of them over a second a half away from the pace-setting Mercedes, on a 1:35.052 for Leclerc and a 1:35.183 for Vettel.
Perez had a good day of race simulations, setting some competitive lap times on the hard tire for longer stints. But his teammate Lance Stroll, who received new parts for the car after his scary crash in Mugello, didn’t go any faster than P17 in the session.
It was a good day of testing and data collection for the teams. Mercedes certainly seem to be the class of the field, but in a surprising result, Renault’s Ricciardo looks to be the best of the rest. McLaren have found a new surge of pace with the new aero packages they have for the weekend, with the new nose possibly staying on at least Norris’s car for the rest of the weekend. Racing Point don’t seem to have found the right formula with the new aero package, but their pace could have been limited by running higher fuel loads.

Predictions for tomorrow

redbullcat:
Driver that could do well: the pick here has to be Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian looks racy this weekend and is incredibly hungry to get a podium for Renault before he leaves for McLaren. And with Red Bull seemingly not finding a good balance for their car, this could be Ricciardo’s best opportunity.
Driver that could disappoint: I’m going to say Max Verstappen. He’s not looked on it all day on Friday and has never finished on the podium at Sochi.
Driver that could spring a surprise: I’m going to go bold and say George Russell could score his first career points this weekend. I’ve just got a feeling about the Brit. I hope I haven’t jinxed it!
UnmeshDatta26:
Driver that could do well: The most obvious pick here is #blessed himself, Lewis Hamilton, but Valtteri has shown incredible pace over the years at this track, so it could be a tossup for pole position. I want to highlight Carlos Sainz as my pick. He has shown some stability after getting his race at Mugello cut short by a freak accident. With a new rear wing, if he can put in a stable lap, the car could be fast enough to get to the second row on the grid.
Driver that could disappoint: My pick will be Esteban Ocon from Renault. His teammate has been faster than him the whole season and he hasn’t shown any improvements this weekend as well. I don’t see him putting that car anywhere near the second row of the grid.
Driver that could spring a surprise: I want to highlight George Russell as my pick. He narrowly missed out on the points at Mugello and he will be looking to push for his first points of his F1 career. He is carrying a lot of momentum heading into the weekend and his qualifying sessions have been the talk of the season, earning him the moniker of Mr. Saturday from the media. Watch out for him to spring a surprise.

2020.08.23 20:10 jamesthegill [Football video games] A Game Of Two Halves

Brief note to start with - football, in this post, refers to the code of “association football”: sometimes also called soccer. If you’re hoping for something about rugby, gaelic rules, NFL or other codes of football, this isn’t it. Sorry!
One of the most popular sports-based video game franchises of the last 30 years would not, at first glance, look like a successful game. The user has no control over the players on the pitch. There’s no chance of the user achieving the schoolboy dream of scoring a last-minute trophy winning goal. For many years there was no visual representation of the pitch at all; a 2003 update featuring circles with little feet was heralded as a major gameplay advance. Fans of competing football games that focus more on the on-pitch play have decried it as “looking like a complicated spreadsheet”. The user takes control of a football club and attempts to lead them to glory by controlling the transfers, the tactics, the style of play, the line-up, the substitutions, the press conferences, contract talks - pretty much everything except the performance of the eleven players that take the field for kick-off. All of the admin, none of the fun parts of playing football. Yet this game has been cited in divorce cases, claims of addiction, and created cult icons of players who never achieved glory in real life. Because of this game, to certain people Cherno Samba, Maxim Tsigalko and Tonton Zola Moukoko are bigger names than actual footballing legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and other household names.
The game is Championship ManageFootball Manager.

Taking it one game at a time

It’s 1992. EuroDisney opens to the general public for the first time amid much turmoil. Nirvana’s Nevermind is riding high in the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic. And two brothers are in a bedroom in England, close to the Welsh border, writing a primitive football management sim in a programming language unsuitable for a computer game. The first edition didn’t feature real players, nor the correct names for the English leagues (after the debut of the Premiership the month before release) but sold enough to justify annual releases, gradually becoming more realistic.
In 1995 the brothers’ company, Sports Interactive, partnered with Eidos who would publish the Championship Manager games. The games expanded their scope, the 97/98 edition featuring the ability to play three country’s leagues simultaneously (greatly increasing the number of clubs a player could move to and become manager of, as well as a larger scouting pool of players available to sign), and the 01/02 release becoming a popular cult classic.
Championship Manager 01/02 (CM 01/02) seems to have hit the sweet spot for many regarding the gameplay. It’s simple enough to pick up and start playing without the need to spend a good hour tweaking the minute details of your left-back’s player role, but detailed enough to be immersive. Since it was made freeware in 2008 a community has sprung up online providing updates to work on pretty much any operating system, and updating squad lists so that with the right database, you could start the game featuring accurate players from the current season all the way back to the 1980s.

He’s created something out of nothing there

CM4 broke first day sales records for a PC game when it was released in March 2003. (The naming of each release seemed to alternate between a sequential suffix (CM2, CM3), or the years of the season it preceded (CM 97/98, CM 01/02) with an inconsistency not seen since until the Fast and Furious franchise, but that’s neither here nor there.) It featured 39 playable leagues and introduced the “circles with feet” gameplay overview to the CM universe. It also featured several interesting bugs, such as unfashionable lower league clubs like Swindon being able to sign World Cup winning superstars, but these were ironed out with the next edition (CM 03/04) released eight months later. The games were well known among football fans around the world, to the point where Everton fans were excited about new signing Ibrahima Bakayoko due to his strong stats in-game. (Like a number of CM wonderkids, he unfortunately didn’t live up the hype.)
All seemed to be going well, so inevitably things went wrong.
In September 2003 it was quietly announced that Sports Interactive and Eidos were going their separate ways. Details are still somewhat vague, probably for legal reasons, but a few dribs and drabs have leaked out over the years. Sports Interactive presumed that Eidos had brought on another games studio (Beautiful Game Studio - “the beautiful game” is a common tagline for football) to gradually push SI out of the game that they’d created over a decade ago. Eidos tell a different story - they assumed that SI were looking to jump ship and brought in Beautiful Game so that they had a studio to make the next edition without little disruption. Like a good farce, miscommunication led to problems and a grudge.
The Managing Director of SI, Miles Jacobson, later said of the split:
“I’m sure there are two sides to this story, at the time we felt there was a lack of respect that we did for our work from Eidos. There seemed to be an attitude at the time in the industry that anyone could make games. Eidos wanted more control. We wanted more control. We were asking for high royalties. Eidos set up Beautiful Game Studios nine months before CM4 was due to come out. They told me that Beautiful Game were making a platform game. I thought our number was up.”
After the divorce, certain aspects of the game ended up divided between the two studios. Eidos retained the rights to the name and the graphical interface, but SI kept the database and the match engine. The following season saw competing games released by each studio, the first time in years users had a choice in football management simulations. Eidos released the next edition of the Championship Manager series (CM5), while Sports Interactive started over with a new brand name to build up, with Football Manager 2005 (FM05).

Never known that they’re beaten

All signs pointed to the big, moneyed studio crushing the smaller underdog, but like a good cup tie the form book goes out the window. The asset split worked out in SI’s favour - for the next release they just needed to provide a new front end user interface, and while that was no doubt quite a task, it was nothing compared to Eidos rebuilding the game from the ground up! This enabled SI to get in quickly and release FM05 first, in November of 2004. Not having to go head-to-head with their former employers worked in their favour as the inaugural Football Manager was a success everywhere (well, except China).
Eidos had to start from scratch with the player database and took a shortcut in hiring a firm to create their own, losing a lot of the realism and personal touch (SI had prided themselves in using fans of the game to scout and research both playing and non-playing staff of clubs) that fans had come to expect from Championship Manager.
Eidos stumbled out of the gate with their first non-SI release, releasing a delayed game still featuring a large number of glitches requiring a day one patch download of 75MB - adding an additional half hour of frustration before getting a working game. CM6, released the season after, addressed these issues but added others, with inaccurate player attributes plaguing the database and further undermining confidence. SI partnered with Sega Europe for future releases, and again made good use of the fans’ goodwill by releasing demos of the latest game and encouraging bug reporting before the full release. The demo would only allow the user to play the first six months of the new game, building hype for the release while preventing full blown addiction. (Certain users used to only play the demo to avoid losing entire weekends to the game.)
Football Manager went from strength to strength, and is now only challenged by the FIFA series in terms of annual football games. The latest release has expanded to include 118 leagues (if you’ve harboured dreams of leading a Belorussian second tier side to Champions League glory, it’s for you) and is synonymous with football management games. Users have leveraged success in the game to real life positions with football clubs. Those same clubs have used the extensive database as a scouting tool to find new players. Championship Manager's last PC edition was released in 2010, with an iOS version following a year later - meanwhile, Football Manager has had stage shows and books written about the game and how absorbing it is to play.

I deleted a bunch of my fantasy bookings (including the original version of this) because I wasn't happy with them so if you notice some old fantasy bookings of mine are gone that is why.

The only changes I'd make to the faction/story before the 2009 Royal Rumble:

In this fantasy booking we're gonna be looking at elevating Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes and another person who I would include in faction which is David Hart Smith

Royal Rumble 2009:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes def. CM Punk & Kofi Kingston (C) - Tag Team match for the World Tag Team Championships.
So on the January 19th 2009 episode of Raw a week after Manu & Sim Snuka have been kicked out Legacy, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes decide they want to become World Tag Team Champions again so they call Kofi Kingston & CM Punk out on Raw and demand to be granted a title match. CM Punk & Kofi Kingston agree as long as they can win a gauntlet match against 3 other teams, the first team is John Morrison & The Miz, Ted & Cody defeat them, second is Cryme Tyme again Ted & Cody breeze past them and the 3rd team are Punk & Kofi themselves which put up a fight, however Legacy get past them and they are granted their title match. And at the Royal Rumble they win and become the new World Tag Team Champions.
Randy Orton of course wins the Royal Rumble match as he did in real life. Randy Orton is obviously having his feud with the McMahon family after punting Mr. McMahon in the head.

No Way Out 2009:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes (C) def. CM Punk & Kofi Kingston - Tag Team ladder match for the World Tag Team Championships.
CM Punk & Kofi Kingston ally themselves with the McMahon family to take down Orton's proteges so Punk & Kingston invoke their rematch clause and a tag team ladder match for the titles is set up for No Way Out. Ted & Cody retain thanks to David Hart Smith more on that later.
Later that night No Way Out David Hart Smith is introduced by Randy Orton, DH Smith has joined Legacy since he too is a second generation superstar. Smith is basically an enforcer for the group since Manu totally failed as an enforcer. DH Smith helps Orton wins his match against Shane McMahon.
Triple H obviously wins the WWE title at No Way Out.

Wrestlemania 25:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes (World) def. The Colons (Primo & Carlito) (WWE) - Tag team match to unify the WWE & World Tag Team Championships.
DiBiase & Rhodes after knocking off Punk & Kingston go into a program with The Colon brothers, basically DiBiase & Rhodes also want to be WWE Tag Team Champions and Orton demands for the match to take place at Wrestlemania a winners take all match. Vince denies this at first but as David Hart Smith gets in his face he does one better and sets up a unification match for Wrestlemania. This makes The Colon brothers unhappy. On the March 30th 2009 episode of Raw DiBiase & Rhodes offer The Colons a spot in Legacy since they are both multi generation wrestlers. They say "we can be World Tag Team champions, you 2 can be WWE Tag Team Champions and we can rule the tag team division." Primo & Carlito deny the offer and the match is still scheduled. DH Smith helps Legacy win and Ted & Cody become the unified tag team champions.
Also later that night Orton wins the WWE title from Triple H. The HHH vs Orton match is also a No Hods Barred match since it really needed the bump up. And of course Orton wins.

Backlash 2009:
Legacy (Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes) (C) def. Evolution (Triple H, Batista & Ric Flair) - 6 man winners take all tag team match for the WWE & Unified Tag Team Championships.
On the Raw after Wrestlemania, David Hart Smith suffers his first loss to the returning Batista at this point DH Smith rarely wrestles and when he does they are short squash matches against jobbers and mid carders where basically just destroys them in like 3 - 6 minutes. Orton is confronted by Triple H who tells them they are set for a rematch at Backlash. Triple H also informs Ted & Cody they are set to face Batista & a partner of his choice at Backlash for the Unified Tag Team titles. Batista announces who his partner is later on, his partner is Ric Flair who makes a WWE return and comes out of retirement.
This is the beginning of a Legacy vs Evolution feud. Vince McMahon decides to book a 6 man tag team match and the winning team gets all the titles, Flair & Batista have the opportunity to become Unified tag team champions. Flair tells Orton "your new group..Legacy is nothing but a cheap version of Evolution" Orton says "at least Legacy wont turn on me" Triple H says "we didn't turn on you for being champion, we turned on you because you were an annoyance" Orton fires back and tells Evolution "look who is standing in the ring with me, Ted DiBiase the son of the Million Dollar Man he is a future star in the company and will carry the company for years to come, Cody Rhodes..he has been here less than 2 years and has already surpassed his father the hall of famer Dusty Rhodes like I surpassed mine and David Hart Smith the son of the British Bulldog he too is a future champion." Batista then has a go and says "wasn't it you who about 1 and a half years ago slapped Cody's father in the face in front of him" Cody replies and says "none of that matters anymore, I am now better than my father ever was thanks to Orton." Ric Flair then has some final words "I think there has been enough talk" he then clobbers Randy Orton and the 7 men all have a brawl with Evolution ending up on top.
Then at Backlash main event of the night is the 6 man winners take all tag team match and yes I know Ric Flair coming out of retirement and then immediately main eventing a PPV doesn't exactly sound good but this is to elevate Ted & Cody to a somewhat main event level. The match goes on a good 20 - 25 minutes and ends with Orton punting Triple H pinning him 1..2..3 this means Triple H needs medical attention and will be out for a little bit.

Judgement Day 2009:
David Hart Smith def. MVP (C) - United States Championship.
DH Smith the enforcer of the group calls MVP out, Smith challenges MVP to a United States Championship match. MVP denies him he argues DH Smith hasn't earned a title match so he shouldn't give him one that easily. For this Randy Orton & the rest of Legacy give MVP a prison beating, MVP is in a match against The Miz on Raw, this is 2 Raw's before Judgement Day, when the 4 members of Legacy surround the ring and then assault the 2 men leaving it as a no contest. Miz rolls out of the ring while Legacy dish out a beating to MVP, Ted, Cody & DH all hit their finishers on MVP and Orton is getting MVP ready for the RKO when who comes out to save the day? Batista who has recently began feuding with Randy Orton. Smith at this point is the only one in Legacy who doesn't have a title so he wants the U.S title since that's the only title on Raw he could hold. At Judgement Day DH Smith wins and he is the new United States Champion, Ted & Cody don't defend the Tag titles at Judgement Day so if Orton beats Batista then Legacy will hold all the gold.

Randy Orton (C) def. Batista - WWE Championship.
Orton & Batista go at it. The whole story is Batista wanting retribution wanting to give Orton his comeuppance. At this point, Orton attacked the entire McMahon family, sent HHH out with injury, punted Ric Flair and before all of that sent Batista out with injury costing him 4 months of his career and Orton still got away with all of it.
For weeks Batista does anything he can to get a WWE Championship match he wins matches he begs he starts to get a little bit desperate. He does anything to get Ortons attention such as interrupting in his matches, beating up Ted, DH & Cody backstage and even walks around with a WWE replica title calling himself the WWE Champion. Orton is sick of it so he challenges Batista to a WWE Championship match at Judgement Day exactly what Batista wanted. The match is given the go ahead however the 2 are put into a match on the final Raw before Judgement Day like they were in real life and Batista in that match doesn't care since its not a title match so he gets himself DQ'd on purpose after battering Orton with a chair like in real life and he takes out all 3 of Orton's proteges in a swift strike. Batista tells Randy that come Sunday he is done.
And at Judgement Day. Batista has Orton in Batista bomb positon but Orton escapes, realizing he will need to cheat his way out Orton rko's the referee knocking the ref out cold. Orton then slithers out of the ring and grabs a steel chair, Batista goes after Orton but from behind Batista is cracked with a chair by Ted DiBiase. Ted then starts to batter Batista with the chair, Ted in his assault on Batista is joined by Cody and the 2 pound him for a good 3 minutes. Smith joins them and Orton has Batista in RKO position onto the announce table, Randy goes to hit it, Batista counters and Randy alone goes through the table. The 3 members of Legacy then proceed to give Batista a battering, until MVP who lost the U.S title to DH earlier and Shane McMahon who we haven't seen since No Way Out run out to help Batista, the 2 knock out Cody Rhodes right off the bat, Shane for a bit brawls with Ted DiBiase and MVP brawls with Smith.
MVP & Smith end up on the entrance ramp, while Shane & Ted end up in the crowd, Batista throws Orton back into the ring. And calls for another referee, another ref comes down 1..2.. Orton kicks out at 2. Batista cant believe it, Batista gets Orton in Batista bomb position again Orton gets out of it and hits Batista with the RKO 1..2..3. Orton retains the WWE Championship so Legacy hold all the gold everyone in the stable has a title.

May 25th 2009 episode of Raw:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes (C) vs. MVP & Shane McMahon ended in a double count out - Unified Tag Team Championships.
On the Raw after Judgement Day Vince McMahon says later that night they are gonna have a number one contenders tag team match to determine who will face Ted & Cody the week after. MVP & Shane McMahon team up and face The Colons in a winning effort to become the number one contenders to the Unified Tag Team Championships. The Colons also really want their 2 on 2 rematch with Ted & Cody. However for now Shane O' Mac & MVP will face Legacy. The match goes ahead on the May 25th 2009 episode of Raw about 2 weeks before the next PPV Extreme Rules. The match ends in a double count out after Cody & McMahon end up in the crowd.

Extreme Rules 2009:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes (C) def. MVP & Shane McMahon & The Colons (Primo & Carlito) Triple Threat Tag team Ladder match for the Unified Tag Team Championships.
Because of the double count out on Raw Vince books a rematch for Extreme Rules Ted & Cody v Shane & MVP, this again makes The Colons blood boil and Primo argues that he and his brother have been working hard to earn a title match while all Shane had to do is "wait for Daddy to hand him an opportunity" Vince says that Carltio has a point and tells him if they can beat MVP & Shane then he'll make it a triple threat. Then on the June 1st 2009 episode of Raw Primo & Carlito defeat MVP & Shane so its made a triple threat tag team match but because of the name Extreme Rules an extreme stipulation is added to the match that being a ladder match for the Unified Tag Team titles. Legacy retain the titles thanks to DH Smith. Legacy also "injure" Shane McMahon the next night on Raw this it write him off TV.
As for Orton vs Batista.. the rematch is set up after Batista becomes number one contender to the WWE title yet again. He is seen backstage later that night where he is on the phone to Triple H and he says "I'm gonna hurt Randy Orton like he hurt you & your family." Batista informs Orton that their match will be inside a steel cage and come Extreme Rules it'll be his "retribution time" Batista aims to give Orton whats coming to him. Batista wants to get retribution for himself, Triple H, Ric Flair and the McMahon family. However Batista fails, Orton wins he stays WWE Champion after an RKO from the top of the cage and then escaping the cage. Next night on Raw Orton & Legacy take out Batista and "break his arm."

June 22nd 2009 episode of Raw:
David Hart Smith (C) def. MVP & Kofi Kingston - Triple threat for the United States Championship.
So 2 Raw's after Extreme Rules, DH Smith is forced to defend the United States title after MVP decides to invoke his rematch clause. DH Smith in recent weeks has also began to have issues with Kofi Kingston who really wants to be United States Champion so on the June 15th 2009 episode of Raw we have MVP vs Kofi Kingston winner faces DH Smith. What happens? Smith, DiBiase & Rhodes run in and attack both men so its a no contest. For this Vince books a triple threat with MVP, Kofi Kingston & DH Smith scheduled for next week which is the final Raw before the Great American Bash. Smith retains his United States Championship and after the match he and Legacy just destroy MVP and "break his ankle" this is to write him off TV so he can return in like 2 months and have a feud with Randy Orton.

The Great American Bash 2009:
Edge & Chris Jericho def. Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes (C) - Unified Tag Team Championships.
Originally Ted & Cody are set to face The Colons after they become #1 contenders to the titles but Ted & Cody jump them backstage meaning they don't get their 2 on 2 match with Legacy. This angers The Colons. Because Edge & Chris Jericho both want to be added to a match after Jericho fails to retain the I.C title against Rey Mysterio and after Edge reveals he doesn't even have a match for the night. They both intimidate Teddy Long like they did in real life telling him they can get him fired if they tell Mr. McMahon they are unhappy. And seeing Legacy are without competition, Teddy Long adds Edge & Chris Jericho to the match. Edge & Jericho win the Unified Tag titles.
As for Randy Orton well, in the build up to the G.A.B he is acting all cocky since he thinks he has no competition left after Shane McMahon & Batista are gone out, Triple H is already out with injury and the only potential threat to his title in his eyes is John Cena and he's already in a program with The Miz so there is no one left to challenge him. That is until Triple H returns on the June 15th episode of Raw to confront him, Triple H & Orton's long rivalry is settled in a hell in a cell match at the G.A.B after Triple H defeats Big Show and a couple other Raw superstars in a gauntlet match to earn this WWE title shot. In the H.I.A.C match Randy Orton retains the WWE title.

Night of Champions 2009:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes def. Jeri-Show (Chris Jericho & The Big Show) - Tag team match for the vacant Unified Tag Team Championships.
Legacy begin feuding with Chris Jericho after this, since Edge is injured he and Jericho are forced to relinquish the Unified Tag titles. Legacy are inserted into the match since they have a rematch for the titles. Jericho keeps asking for a match for the titles he promises to bring a partner to NOC. The Colons still want their rematch for the titles and so Jericho faces The Colons in a 2 on 1 handicap match to earn the match for himself and the mystery partner. For this Carlito turns on Primo.
The mystery partner is The Big Show, and they begin to call themselves Jeri-Show. And at the PPV Legacy win back the Unified Tag Team Championships and then they sort of begin to feud a little bit with Jeri-Show but that's kind of weird since both teams are the heels.

Kofi Kingston def. David Hart Smith (C) - United States Championship.
Kofi Kingston & David Hart Smith are facing each other for the United States Championship since MVP is now out of the picture. Kingston becomes #1 contender to the title on the Raw after The Great American Bash. His life is made hell by Legacy, DH Smith goes off on how Kingston isn't even in his league and is not worthy of the title that he claims he himself "revived." This is not meant to be racist or anything like that. Legacy have numerous backstage encounters with Kingston, run in numerous times in his matches but in the end Kingston ends up on top since he captures the United States Championship.

John Cena def. Randy Orton (C) - WWE Championship.
John Cena after The Great American Bash becomes the number one contender to Randy Orton's WWE title. John Cena at Night of Champions captures Orton's WWE title this is the beginning of a Randy Orton - John Cena feud. Despite a run in from Ted & Cody Orton loses the WWE title right here.

Summerslam 2009:
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes (C) def. D-Generation X (Triple H & Shawn Michaels) - Unified Tag Team Championships.
We have the DX reunion 2 weeks earlier that way we can build up more of a story when Legacy attack them during the reunion. So Ted & Cody off the bat of a big win over Chris Jericho & The Big Show wish to continue their roll by spoiling the DX reunion.
For the attack the previous week on the August 10th 2009 episode of Raw while Ted DiBiase is in a match against Evan Bourne or someone like that, from the crowd area Triple H & Shawn Michaels interrupt by saying "boring" into the microphone, they cost Ted DiBiase the match by constantly interrupting and then make their way to the ring, when they get there David Hart Smith & Cody Rhodes show up. DX are joined by Kofi Kingston and they get the better of the 3 men. This makes Legacy question Orton asking where he was, Orton reveals he has bigger priorities like getting back the WWE title. Ted DiBiase says Orton is being selfish and he storms off.
On the August 17th 2009 episode of Raw DX interrupt Cody's match and end making him lose, DX challenge Legacy to a match at Summerslam for the titles, Cody & Ted see this as an opportunity to make a name for themselves so they accept the challenge and the match is set for Summerslam its gonna be DX vs Legacy for the titles.
Legacy win the match retaining the Unified Tag Team Championships. Before Orton's match with John Cena, Ted & Cody go to him and talk about their victory, Orton congratulate them but he says that his title match with John Cena is more important than their tag title match. This continues to make Ted & Cody frustrated. Later that night Randy Orton wins back the WWE Championship from John Cena.

Part 2 will go from after Summerslam to after Wrestlemania 26.

(This is a repost of a booking I posted earlier, the reason I'm reposting is because I went to edit it and without realizing deleted a good chunk of the booking and saved it).

2020.08.10 19:21 Chris_R2001 Rebooking CM Punk's first World Heavyweight Championship reign

Background info:

Reason for the I.C title reign is well..I think every wrestler should hold a mid card title before becoming World Champion...(unless its Brock Lesnar) and yes Punk was ECW Champion but still.

Raw. June 30th 2008:
CM Punk def. Edge (C) - Money in the Bank cash in for the World Heavyweight Championship.
So after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Kofi Kingston CM Punk on the Raw after NOC runs out and like he did in real life cashes in on Edge who retained the World Heavyweight Championship at NOC against Batista. Punk cashes in the Money in the Bank briefcase and he becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion.

The Great American Bash 2008:
CM Punk (C) def. Batista by disqualification - World Heavyweight Championship match.
Batista isn't happy about this, he isn't turning heel or anything but he tells CM Punk the only reason he is World Heavyweight Champion is because of him (since Batista did attack Edge before Punk cashed in the briefcase). Batista & CM Punk are both babyface so this means neither man will be taking shortcuts in their matches. Batista becomes number one contender to the title.
2 babyface's however need a good heel majority of the time so I'm picking JBL. JBL faced John Cena ina first blood match at One Night Stand and wins ending the feud there. The Texas loudmouth interrupts a CM Punk & Batista showdown on the July 7th 2008 episode of Raw he demands to get a title shot and even calls Punk a nobody. Batista tells JBL to stop running his mouth demanding title matches to which JBL brags about how he was the longest WWE Champion in Smackdown history at one point Punk tells JBL nobody cares about that anymore and that WWE is about the stars of today not the stars of yesterday.
Later that night JBL & Batista face each other in a match, JBL goes for the clothesline from hell but Batista ducks and spears him then pins him 1..2.. JBL kicks out. Batista hits JBL with the batista bomb then he pins JBL 1..2..3.
At the Great American Bash JBL midway through the match comes down to the ring and sits at the commentary desk and calls the match occasionally catching Batista & CM Punk's attention. Eventually JBL gets out of his chair, Batista gets out of ring and the 2 square off outside. As the referee as at the count of 4 CM Punk hits a splash on JBL & Batista, Punk picks Batista up and throws him back in the ring and as he's climbing into the ring JBL grabs him by the leg drags him off the apron and then hits Punk with the clothesline from hell. This means its a DQ finish which makes Batista very angry.

Summerslam 2008:
CM Punk (C) def. Batista & JBL - Triple threat for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Batista is very annoyed about JBL screwing him out of the World Heavyweight Championship, JBL really wants a title shot. CM Punk tells JBL he has to earn a title shot, Batista tells Punk that he can't beat him and that he's the only reason he's standing there the World Heavyweight Champion. To settle this the Raw GM (haven't decided on who the GM would be at this point) books a match between JBL & Batista and the winner faces CM Punk at Summerslam. The match ends in a double count out after Batista spears JBL through the barricade and neither man can answer the 10 count. Both men are added to the title match at Summerslam.
The triple threat goes on just before Undertaker vs Edge. Its around 13 minutes of fast paced action and ends once JBL hits Batista with the clothesline from hell but turns around into a roundhouse kick, Punk then pins Batista 1..2..3. CM Punk retains the World title.

(We still get John Cena vs Batista later down the line, most likely at Survivor Series)

Unforgiven 2008:
CM Punk (C) def. Kane, Rey Mysterio, Batista & John Cena - Championship scramble for the World Heavyweight Championship.
John Cena doesn't get injured and doesn't need neck surgery because he doesn't face Batista at Summerslam so he is fit to compete. Cena, Batista, Kane & Rey Mysterio all qualify for the Championship scramble match for the WHC. During this scramble match John Cena & Batista have a stare down. During the scramble match Cena, Kane & Rey Mysterio all become the temporary World Champion (look up rules of the Championship scramble match). But at the last minute

No Mercy 2008:
CM Punk (C) def. JBL - World Heavyweight Championship.
John Bradshaw Layfield becomes the new number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship again after getting a good win over John Cena. This is around the time that CM Punk is having issues with Randy Orton who is set to return to the ring in the coming months. JBL is basically just filler tbh so Punk comfortably goes over him retaining the title.

Cyber Sunday 2008:
Chris Jericho def. CM Punk (C) - Special guest referee match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels match at No Mercy while it has the same story is a ladder match with a contract guaranteeing a WHC match on the line. Jericho after No Mercy right off the bat of winning the feud with Shawn Michaels starts a feud with CM Punk. The match is made a special guest referee match by the Raw GM with 3 choices.
Special guest referee choices:
If Orton is voted to be the special guest referee then I'd have him screw Punk out of the title if not then he just runs in and costs him the title.

Raw. November 3rd 2008 (800th episode):
Chris Jericho (C) def. CM Punk - Steel cage match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
On the November 3rd 2008 episode of Raw which is the 800th episode we have the rematch for the title and to celebrate the occasion we add a special stipulation to the match that being its a steel cage match. CM Punk is about the escape but who makes a run in? Cody Rhodes & David Hart Smith who are apart of Orton's new group Legacy they come out and prevent CM Punk from escaping the cage, Chris Jericho takes advantage of the distraction and crawls out the cage door and retains the World Heavyweight Championship.

Aftermath:

2020.07.28 18:06 throwaway-0410 A Comprehensive Timeline of EvaX

I've been seeing a lot of posts asking for this. To the best of my ability I'll list what I've found with evidence. I'm addressing Alex Mahan as "EvaX" instead of "YanDev" because I don't think it's very accurate to call him a developer.
Important note: I don't condone the harassment of Alex Mahan. While it is fine to be outraged over his behavior, harassment of any kind is not encouraged. The purpose of this post is to bring to light the morally inept behaviors that have been expressed throughout the years, not to create reasons to harass Mahan.
About CannotGoogleMe: There is now proof beyond reasonable doubt (99%) that confirms CannotGoogleMe is EvaX. Subject is under 2015.
Lastly, if I'm missing any information or if someone would like to make a better timeline, feel free to take from this post or build off of it- you can copy-paste! The goal is to make a comprehensive list to get the facts straight so that everyone is better informed.
The notes about his age is to prevent any arguments about his age ("he was only a teen when he wrote that!"), and to give a better example of... is this a good reflection of how an ___ aged man should behave? Also provided as a DEFENSE for EvaX himself (as seen in "ideation of killing his parents) as he is speculated to only be 16.
(Please comment any info/evidence I'm missing instead of messaging me)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under Construction /Ambiguous dates / Misc.
Ideation of killing his parents (2000's- unknown date)
EvaX has been known to be a frequenter of sites like Gaia and 4chan. He posted about wanting to kill his parents; someone advised him to move out but he didn't want to as he was a dependent. While this is worrisome behavior, the speculated time of the post places EvaX to be in his late teens (most likely 16?), so it's not quite relevant to his behavior now besides building a background of repeated behavior and an unstable/ dangerous mindset.
Abusing Stream Watchers
Called a person an a*tistic little b*tch in a stream. Unfortunately it was deleted and I cannot find any evidence of it (if found I'll put it here), but this was also part of the stream that was captured by a kiwi before being deleted (speculated to have occurred on 2009 or 2015, based on the dates, making EvaX ~21 or 27).
Master Post of stolen assets
Link
Unprofessional Interactions Compilation
Link
Mulberry
YanSim's main artist has some allegations against her for tracing art. Not a callout for her, just that it means there are stolen images/ traced art in the game, and I'm not sure if people want to support that.
Spaghetti Code
A very long video that does a good job in covering the code. The video is segmented if you wish to look for a specific subject, and is also in the description.
Loserz Message Board
2006-2007 (~18-19 y/o)
EvaX was part of the Loserz Message Board (Loserz webcomic forum) and has made some questionable posts and comments about women and general incel thoughts. Most of his activity were in 2006-2007 (18-19 y/o), so hold these against him with consideration of his age.
Playing a Porn Game with an Underaged Character
2006 (~18 y/o)
EvaX frequented a forum to guide him on a game called Rapelay, a pornographic game centered around sexually assaulting a mother and her two daughters, one of whom is underaged. While the forum has no pictures, click at your own risk due to the nature of the game.
Alleged Pastebin of EvaX addressing Streaming Abuse
EvaX has/had a private website where he streamed and interacted with people, and this is apparently a response to EvaX abusing mod powers (banning, censorship, etc.)

Volunteer Mistreatment
Many volunteers have stopped working with EvaX after harsh treatment or problematic behavior. Will be updated with more information

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2005-2012 (17- 24 y/o; "Life of a Sex Slave" was written in 2009, making him ~21 y/o).
Disturbing Fanfictions
EvaX wrote many stories, some about rape and human trafficking (sex slaves). Read at your own risk. In one of the stories, a character was 10 years old when she first experienced rape (and it goes on until her late teens).
2006 (~18 y/o; site lists as 20 but it's either wrong or EvaX forgot to update copyright)-
Name Origin / Confirmation
EvaXephon's name is a combination of Alex Mahan's favorite animes, NGE ("Eva" coming from Evangelion) and RahXephon (Xephon). EvaX has a fanmade site to compare these two animes and confirms that they are the origin of his username.
Rage tendencies
In a conversation in a forum post, EvaX mentions "rage" tendencies and that he has been forbidden from screaming to relieve stress. He mentions hitting objects and more screaming. There are more incel posts at this time.
2008 (~20 y/o)-
Incel / misogynistic Gaia Posts
EvaX confirms he is NotDepressedAnymore (the UN for most of these posts).
EvaX posts an "incel" post on Gaia where he blames his physical appearance for the lack of attention from girls ("I'm a nice friendly guy and I just want people to give me a chance [...] I guess my face makes me look like a creepy, weird guy, so no one wants to know me or be around me"). Here's a similar post. And another one. Aand another one. Aaaaaaaaand another one.
Branching off of this, EvaX has sexualized women and "creep'd" on them. In one post, he mentions staring at a girl's breasts and wonders if his creepy behavior made her cover up.
2009 (~21 y/o)
Sisefs- soliciting nudes and engaging in online sex with a minor
In a post from the victim herself, she confirms that she was in a relationship with EvaX, with EvaX KNOWING she was 14. He justified this relationship by saying that since he was homeschooled, he missed out on dating in high school. She was in MIDDLE SCHOOL.
He asked her for nudes, sexted over skype, and masturbated to her on webcam.
Here's a chatlog with a different girl; use control-f to find "sex". It's predatory. Sisefs is mentioned in the chatlog, but EvaX lies about his experience with her and her character (most importantly, that she was a minor):
" She did a bunch of bad stuff, like...she lied about her age, and she started a website to give people a place to say bad things about me, and her parents took away her Internet privileges because she was taking nude pictures of herself and sending them out to people. She sent me her nude pictures (and she sent them to like 100 other people too) and somehow, this means "EvaXephon requests child porn from minors". I deleted all of her photos as soon as I discovered that she had been lying about her age the whole time. She was not a good person at all, and I am very glad that I don't know her anymore.""
He also wrote this in context of his experience with Sisefs in 2015 (~27 y/o).
He later makes an tumblr post addressing Sisefs in 2015 (~27 y/o) and general pedophilia/ sisefs situation in 2017 (~29 y/o).
Tumblr user Wunkolo talked to EvaX about this and this was part of his response in an email.

2011-2014 (~23-26 y/o)-
"VideoGameBabes" Twitter
EvaX is confirmed to be the owner of the twitter account "VideoGameBabes". The account is centered around writing about... hot video game "babes", and while that in itself is kinda problematic, he goes beyond that by making a pedophilic comment- "Japan has produced yet another game about fondling underage anime girls. All praise to glorious Japan!"

2014 (~26 y/o)-
Luna Scythe / Skullgirl Programmer Rant
EvaX worked on a hack-and-slash called Lunar Scythe, and he posted it to a skullgirls forum. There has been criticisms from people, as the main character looks like a generic edgy girl (and bears similarity to Ruby?) and has an overly "sexy" vibe. The description of the game literally says
" At the beginning of the game, Luna dies. As Luna’s spirit looks down at her own body, she feels nothing but apathy. She didn’t want to live in a world filled with human filth*, anyway.* "
EvaX showed his game to Mike Z., the lead programmer of Skullgirls. Here's the pastebin transcript of when Eva X and Mike Z had a conversation about the game. He gave EvaX criticism and EvaX blew up in a later post. This is why some people have called Yandere Simulator a "Spite Game" in response to YS fans calling Love Letter the same.
Senpai's Little Sister Controversy
EvaX originally wrote Senpai's sister to be cute and innocent, but wanted to make her "lewd/ jailbaity". This is problematic because Hanako is underage. His defense was that it would make people feel less guilty about killing her.
He later states that Hanako and Senpai are only 3 months apart (same parents) when that is biologically impossible. Also controversial due to incest implications- however, this is a common trope in anime.
Unfortunately, a lot of the posts/ evidence are in yandere_simulator and that is currently in lockdown (and most likely deleted). I'll update if given pictures.

2015 (~27 y/o)-
Addressing suggestions to remove panty shots
I think the post speaks for itself. EvaX thinks people are too sensitive when they tell him to remove a feature in the game that is literally creeping on underage girls, and he wants to implement rape into a game about murdering minors?
Admits he has no formal training
The reason why his code is spaghetti is because he learned while messing around in free programs and from his experience at a company.
Existence of Sex Doll ( "Mai Waifu" character namesake )
CannotGoogleMe is confirmed to be EvaX. Controversial as it is heavily implied that EvaX has bought the doll using Patreon money, as well as naming a class 1-1 (freshman) underage character after his sex doll, placing her at around age 14-15. They have similarities, such as pink hair (which was inspired by a Momoka cosplayer EvaX saw). Forum posts start at 2012, but doll posts begin at 2015.
Click links with caution. First is the "Mai Waifu" and gets close to nudity but has spoiler tags, while the "Samus" one is less risque.

2016 (~28 y/o)-
Censorship on Yandere Simulator Wiki
While EvaX is the "dev", he doesn't have the right to remove posts on a fan-run wikia. He barged into the wiki and started removing posts and comments and got banned, then started a flame war with another user. They told him "you aren't above the rules" and EvaX starts attacking his personality and credibility (ad hominem fallacy).
Ayano in Crush Crush (A Porn Version exists)
Crush Crush is an idle dating sim, and EvaX agreed to let Ayano be made into a dateable character. It is partnered with Nutaku (a well-known adult company) and has a NSFW version (link to twitter, not the game. Safe to click). The 18+ version has a still image of the main character (a white blob) doing it with any of the dateable characters, Ayano included.
Ayano is 18* (Ayano previously was listed to be around 17, but has since been boosted to be 18). There is a classic tactic for people who draw/make/etc. porn to say that all characters depicted are 18+, even if specified otherwise. This seems like a similar case.
Sex License
In a conversation with someone EvaX addresses as "N", he talks about an idea to bypass the age of consent. EvaX did not condone "N" demonizing pedophiles, and defended his idea for a sex license- a test to see if an underage individual is ready for sex (his argument being that people have different maturities regardless of age).
" Intent on forcing me to answer a question that would allow her to brand me as a pedophile, she demanded to know if I would permit a 14-year-old to have sex with a grown man if the 14-year-old had passed the “sex license test” that I had proposed.
Well, obviously, if there’s a test that objectively proves that a person is ready for sex, and a person passes that test, then that person is objectively ready for sex. This is simple logic, but “N” lacked the mental capacity to figure this out for herself."

2016-2017 (~28-29 y/o)-
Nemesis Origin / Stolen concept
Nemesis was based off this art as stated by EvaX himself. To EvaX's credit, he did change Nemesis's hairstyle with the artist's approval, albeit the character design is still very, very similar. (In Mission Mode, it is revealed that Nemesis is Hanako from the Mission Mode alternate timeline, meaning she is underage).

2017 (~29 y/o)-
Stolen Art Used in a Video
EvaX stole multiple fanart from teenagers across some art platforms (Deviantart, tumblr, etc.), blacked them out, and used them to tease new characters. A user has made a very descriptive post about this on the wikia.
Some of these characters are from licensed video games and anime (Elsword and Durarara), so I'm concerned about the legality of using a different company's character to promote your own, even if it's through STOLEN fanart.

2018 (~30 y/o)-
Calls Patreon his Tip Jar
EvaX says the patreon is his tip jar, not the budget for the game. He SOMETIMES compensates volunteers with money from it, however. This is noteworthy as most people assume that the money they're giving him are to support the game, not buy an extra switch or a sex doll (allegedly).

2019 (~31 y/o)-
Announces crossover with Project QT (Porn Game)
Ayano is in the crossover, and EvaX defends this choice by saying "YanSim was never intended for children; my audience is mostly adults". Click the first link at your own risk. This is problematic because Ayano is underaged* (even if EvaX says "ALL CHARACTERS ARE 18 EVEN IF SPECIFIED OTHERWISE HURR DURR").

2020 (~32 y/o)-
Discord Speedrun Ban Arc
EvaX made a post addressing what happened to him in 2020, with the "Discord Speedrun Ban Arc" being the first. He states that this started on Jan 20, 2020, and on the same day he posts a tweet about suicidal ideation. Not so much as a demerit to him, but just a reflection of how he handles stressful situations and his poor state of mind. (Important note: even if you think EvaX is a terrible person, harassment is not okay).
Announces crossover with BITC (Porn Game)
Ayano and Nemesis are in the crossover. EvaX just makes a simple post announcing it. Same underage problem applies (as aforementioned, Nemesis is Hanako from another timeline, making her underaged, while Ayano had her age changed to "18").
Intimidating rival games and threatening suicide to the Dev of Love Letter
To the developer of WMN (telling him to take down the game and lie to the fanbase)

2020.06.28 03:31 FMecha [Racing Games/NASCAR] The Tale of Jason Jacoby

Things involved:
Green Flag
In November 2016, iRacing streamer and Domino's delivery driver Jason Jacoby (JJacoby88) shows his rig (called a NASCAR shrine by himself) to the world (rig photo on his site). Valued at $25,000, this custom rig features a custom late model cockpit, a bunch of custom sim wheel parts, and an Oculus Rift CV1 VR rig. Jacoby also commissioned a custom firesuit with his social media and logo of his employment, despite Dominos not sponsoring him. (NASCAR fans may have recognized the tale of BK Racing, who ran Burger King logos without any actual sponsorship as the team was run by a BK franchise owner). In his streams, Jacoby participated in various races, including private leagues featuring and run by NASCAR's superstars - although these are not official iRacing organized series.
We Have A Caution
Later, when asked, it was revealed that Jacoby used maxed credit cards and payday loans to fund his rig (he openly stated this during a stream). He also voiced his aspirations to actually race in a super late model racing series, if not NASCAR's top 3 touring series, which rubbed some the wrong way for being an unrealistic fantasy. By August 2017, he had ran a GoFundMe campaign for his pipe dream* - he only raised $420 and also caught attention of customers and his employer for streaming during his hours where he was supposed to deliver pizza.
In February 2018, Jacoby put up the rig for sale for $5,000, citing family concerns (we'll get to this later). The next month, an user in /NASCAR exposed the ties of Lombard Bros Gaming's (better known as N2SC4R) sponsorship of an Xfinity Series racer (which generated some backlash with NASCAR fans) to Jacoby, which also revealed that Jason knocked up his fiance (who, along with several other young members of the NASCAR fandom, was Jacoby's chat and Discord moderator) at 17. (This was technically legal as both are residents of GA with age of consent at 16, but the age gap - Jacoby was 28 at the time - was enough to raise all the red flags.)
The Black Flag is Out
In July 2019, the issue came back again when his fiance and former community staff, McKenzie Gordon, informed a Facebook group called iRaging World (later named Sim Raging World after iRacing objected to the group's name) about Jacoby's behavior. That same day, N2SC4R tweeted a warning post that did not mention any names, although another user's reply made it clear it was related to Jacoby. Around this time, Jacoby's social media (his original videos and Twitter) disappeared.
By May and June 2020, Jacoby - now working at a Home Depot - began making cryptic and long-winded posts on his Facebook. Later that month, sim racing bloggeYouTuber Austin Ogonoski uploaded two videos, the first an expose on him (in 2:55, Jacoby's admission to using burner credit cards and payday loans is also mentioned - there's also comments related to Jacoby's weird behaviors and other grooming allegations in the comment section) and an interview with McKenzie Gordon, Jacoby's wife, detailing Jacoby's misconduct and actions, including sending unsolicited lewd images to underage girls, domestic violence, and scamming people. In the meantime, NASCAR YouTuber Black Flags Matter made an ten-minute summarized version of the whole affair, which helps shed some light on this incident.
In the meantime, Jacoby uploaded several videos on his thoughts on things on very rapid basis, some of them hitting back on Austin and BFM. These videos are somehow marked for kids, disabling commenting and playlist adding - presumably to avoid criticism.
Additional updates will be available as soon as I can find it.
*This article was not archived by the Wayback Machine, but I have subscription emails as I had an active sub when the blog was active.
In process of researching this, I noticed that Jacoby tried to put the sim rig again for sale for $35,000 or so in 2019, but I have seemingly lost the screencap. (Neither the 2018 or 2019 sale drew a buyer.) Anyway, our first update: Jason Jacoby has been finally arrested on July 13, 2020 - it also happened to be the last day of his mass uploads, following a five-day break since his last video uploaded prior to the arrest, which was just him playing piano. The arrest has been credited to Jacoby basically admitting to the domestic violence in one of his mass uploads called "Was I An Abusive Partner?". Legal proceedings are still in process. A dirt oval driver who met with Jacoby in Indy in 2018 also has his own speak-up.
Update 2: Jacoby has posted a $2,500 bail; no confirmation if the legal process will continue or not. Worth noting that the charges are solely for domestic violence against McKenzie at the moment.
Update 3: Something worth noting is after the bailout Jacoby has continued uploading videos, most of them piano pieces dedicated to NASCAR personalities in addition to his usual rants.
Update 4: iRacing eSports team Burton Klingerman Racing has cut ties with player Ashton Crowder, allegedly after Crowder sent a tweet defending Jacoby. This was apparently the last straw due to allegations of cheating and racial remarks on Crowder's behalf. Also, it seems that iRacing has took down the Get to Know page. An archive is provided here, as SnapshillBot doesn't capture anything I add after I originally posted it.
Update 5: Crowder DMed me few days ago (August 9) that the reason his tweets were trying "to explain to [Jacoby's] ex that being so public about it, in my personal opinion, isn’t good because he’s in a really rough place right now" and he denied making the alleged tweet I linked earlier. Then again, the team that Crowder were released from did not provide any details on why Ashton was removed from the team.
Update 6: It appears that Jacoby has privated all of his rapid-fire upload videos from his YT channel - apparently there was a court order that called for this. Abridged compilations of these videos can be found here and here.

2020.04.29 14:34 GBreakerMills The decade long nightmare with my mother and step douche (I can't refer to him as a step dad)

So I want to apologise in advance because this is going to be a long story. It may also be a bit of a mess as I'm recounting a ton of stuff but I feel like I need to share this.
So the year was early 2008, my parents had split for 2 years and my mum was seeing someone she met online from England. I met him before and he seemed like a nice guy. Well my mum decided to make a move from Scotland to England for a fresh start and from the moment we were moving. Roughly... let's say 30 minutes, the step douches "mask" started to slip off... I don't recall the reason why but I remember him screaming at me. I was only 12 at the time. And yes. He was swearing.
So he was in the van where we had all of the things we were taking and I was in the car with my mum. After an 8-10 hour journey, we stayed over at his parents flat (or apartment for Americans) this was where his true colours started to shine. So I had an Acer laptop that I used to play The Sims 2 and the battery was dead. I was going to charge it but he turned round and said "Don't fucking think about bringing that in.
I asked, "Why? It needs charged" He replied with, "talk back to me again and I will smash that fucking thing"
I was shaken. Now, at the time, I did have a shakey relationship with my dad and despite my dad hitting me in the face once, which he, to this day regrets, I have never been spoken to like that. The following day, we moved into the new flat. Now I didn't think anything of it at the time but it was a shit hole in the middle of a shithole. And this was in the outskirts of London so it was extremely pricey too. Now I don't remember many details from that point to where I started school which was a month or 2 after moving apart from step douche getting pissed off because I play too many video games which was, and still is my form of escape.
So school was problematic for me. It was mostly discriminatory for me moving down from Scotland. I didn't make any friends and I got quiet when it came to the bullying. Screams of silence. This was a catalyst of what was soon to happen.
So back at home, my mum kept getting depressed and wanted to go back home. It wasn't even a year yet. And instead of a partner being comforting... all I heard was aggressive shouting. This was extremely common and it happened once every week. It involved us packing bags, both stopped fighting, unpack the bags lather, rinse and repeat. My dad eventually got visitation right. Come down and see his children once every month and we stay at his every second Christmas and then every other new year, 3 weeks in the summer and during the Easter holidays. Now the issue was my dad was seeing someone at the time. And I couldn't stand her. She had 3 children. 1 who was insanely entitled who acted like she owned my sister, once who was a teenager at the time and was overly aggressive And the eldest was insanely aggressive and was a junkie (drug addict). This will be relevant later on. So part way through 2008 and I got given a rather harsh restriction. I can either go on my ps2, laptop or DS OR watch a DVD for 1 hour per day... 1 hour... per day... 7 days a week. This was brutal and people at school found out and the bullying got worse.
Fast forward to 2009. Bullying and home life was getting worse. Arguments at home started causing what I called the crossfire. If you happened to either be in the same room or even walk passed during the argument, you were getting dragged into the conflict. And it was always in the form of a belittling comment. And these were not the exact things I believe a 13 year old, (myself) a 10 year old (my brother) and a 9 year old (my sister) should be hearing of subjected to. Hell, I don't know if my brother of sister had this threat but I was constantly getting threats from step douche saying that he was going to knock me out.
With all the issues happening, especially bullying at school, which I didn't speak to the head of year as they did nothing, I was put into a weekly session of school counselling. I was scared of my biological dad ever since he hit me, I was sick of the bullying... but I never mentioned the step douche. Probably out of fear.
Now the step douche seemed to hate a lot of things about me and he found anything to belittle me about. Now as stated before, I'm a gamer. I have always been a fan of Pokemon. Still am. But he always saw Pokemon as a game for "babies" and the fact that I still played Pokemon Pearl seemed sickening to him. I got the usual "you should be playing football or speaking to girls instead of playing those poxy (No clue what that means) games". Now I didn't like sports. I hated it. I struggled to socialize because I have low confidence and I struggled BIG TIME to speak to the opposing gender. I'm not homosexual, it's lack of confidence and I will be brutally honest. The step douche was homophobic and I believe that, for a time, might have unintentionally made me homophobic too. (I am no longer homophobic as I have friends who are homosexual and they are awesome) Doesn't help that I had that disgusting mindset and went to an all boys school (sorry for forgetting to mention that)
This was also The year that my mum thought it was a great idea for me to take my brother and sister to school so she can... I don't know, be lazy. She did work but it was in the afternoon and even though step douche had the car as he was a postman and had to drive to work, my mum should have taken the bus with my brother and sister but she got me to do it as it was on the way to my school. Thing is I needed 2 buses but one of those buses was different than the one I needed. We didn't have a school bus so we had to take the public bus. The amount of times I missed my bus and either being late or JUST making it was annoying and was making me paranoid as I thought trouble was brewing everywhere. I told my mum but she said "wel l you're not always late so keep doing it".
Now another issue with me was building. Blind anger. And the fact that I was also quick to anger was a constant issue. I would get so pissed, and this mostly happened with my brother and sister, that it seemed like I blacked out, and then when I returned to reality, one of them was on the floor crying and I was being told off. And it was again, with belittlement and, I also couldn't think for myself. The usual scenario was "Why the fuck did you hit him" I would reply with "I don't know, I don't even remember doing it" But my mum would always respond with "you do remember. You just don't want to own up to your own action you horrible bastard"
Summer 2009 comes along and things got worse. Now for context here, my mum get me lies about my dad. That he takes drugs, he beat her every night and at one point, he came home drunk and came to beat the shit out of me but she took the beatings instead. There was a lot of shouting, screaming and abuse but not physical. However, after a very heated argument, i got locked in the house by my dad's bitch of a partner and I felt like I needed to escape. Fearing my for my life, she tried to get into my room but I barricaded it and as she tried to get through and I was holding the door close with all the other stuff, she said that she would rather see me dead. And that my existence will be a stain on society. I can't even remember how all that happened but the police were called by me... but nothing came out of it. She also was calling my friends "disgusting fuckers" but I have no clue why. Probably because of an association with me. The kicker was on the drive home... I got into another argument with my dad and he then called me a mistake. I then cut contact with him.
Second half of 2009, and for whatever reason, my brother, sister and I were enrolled in the sea cadets. Now I have high respect for the armed forces but I didn't want to join them but I was forced to by my mum and step douche. I hated it. Now I was 14 and entering the rebellious phase so having someone you don't really know telling you what to do was something i wasn't having. And, you guessed it. People at school noticed this and more bullying.
One Sunday, an argument was caused and there was a lot more banging than usual, in fact, step douche was shouting louder. He ended up barging I to my room, shoved me out of the way, hard, grabbed my ps2 and threw it into the wall, destroying it, said "let's see you entertain yourself now you fucking cunt" and left. I was in tears. Not because the ps2 was broken but I was in shock and I knew... I was in a living nightmare.
It was also around this time that I stopped seeing the school counsellor in favour of a properly qualified counsellor. (That sounds mean but the help that this person gave me was huge) I felt really comfortable with this person. It may be because I was away from the school that i was able to tell her everything without fear of step douche finding out or because the tone she used was comforting... or maybe because she was also Scottish, whatever the reason, I was able to talk to her.
Christmas 2009. I got my Xbox 360 as well as live gold and COD Modern Warfare 2. Things seemed ok despite a Christmas dinner argument (well it happened during the cooking but it's related) but it was ok. My brother and sister were home on 27th from seeing my dad and as soon as I shown my brother the Xbox... step douche grounded me... because I didn't ask HIM to go on it... I'm not kidding. 3 days I had it and I'm banned from playing it .
New year rolls around and 10pm strikes. Hell breaks loose. Now my brother got into an argument with step douche and... the first moment of physical abuse. He punched my brother in the stomach because I believe my brother said that he was a nasty piece of work. We knew he was pissed off because we didn't hear my brother in pain from downstairs... what we did hear was the shattering of a window on the living room door... And step douches fist through it everyone... INCLUDING step douches biological son and daughter were kicked out. We spent the remainder of new years at his parents... the countdown to 12am. The clock struck midnight. Cheers for new year... but from me... cries... as I knew things would get worse.
2010 was somewhat a blur it was filled with the occasional abuse. I can say that it took till November to get Xbox live set up because he was lazy and I still dreaded every single Sunday because he was off work. I had work experience that year. And I was made to take it at royal mail... big mistake... why? Because that was his place of work. Now I remember nothing happening until the last day... I was feeling sick as it was extremely hot and what did he do? Threaten to leave me stranded and I would have to make my own way home... I didn't have any credit on my phone at the time, I didn't have my bus pass... so anxiety started creeping up. There was a lot of shouting from him as well as belittlement.
Now I may be getting mixed up in years but I'm sure my sister got a pet rabbit. It was a cute but aggressive thing (let's say, an adorable thing like a rabbit can growl and it's frightening). This will also be relevant.
I guess it was also this time that we got the Wi-Fi in but... here's the issue. They felt that every penny had to be saved so unless someone was using it for school purposes, it was turned off.
2011 rolls round and things started to burn. New years day, I get a message from my cousin and I had to phone my nan. (My dad's mum) it turned out that her and my grandad were coming back from Australia on new years and my grandad suffered a major heart attack and died. My mum being her and hating my dad's side of the family thought it would be a great idea... to NOT let me attend the funeral...
So I was studying drama and for that class, we were off to see Blood Brothers in West London and after one of my rebellious antics, both my mum and step douche thought it would be a good idea to punish me by stopping me from going with 2 weeks until the production. They were, of course, doing this to get inside of my brain because if I didn't watch it, I would fail the exam at the end of the year.
Now this is where things get worse. One day, in D.T, my teacher decides to, for whatever reason, call both myself and a friend out for not finishing a project. My mum and step douche took this to a disgustingly high level and took it all out on me as if I was trying to fail in life. I broke and, as I was deep in a rebellious phase, ran away. I went to a friend's but there was a knock at the door that night and it was the police. I was brought back to them. I just remained quiet as they spoke to my mum and step douche. Roughly 5 minutes after I left, they both walk into the living room. My step dad approached me, grabs me by the neck and throws me across the room. I get up and he throws a punch into my face. My mum just watched as if it was some sort of normality... I guess it was in this home...
I wasn't getting much better. I guess I can say that it was also around this time I was stealing from my mum. Stealing cash. I'm personally not proud of it. But... Step douche found out. Now all I remember at this time is that I had every electronic device taken out of my room. And... locked in my bedroom. Didn't even get fed for the weekend. Starving... alone... depression was starting to take hold.
Counselling ended as the root of my anger was found. Bullying and my dad. Or should I say the lies I was fed, but I didn't find out about that till later
The exams that year were no joke. I passed some classes, failed more. I did fail maths but I tend to put that down to the teacher. He was useless, and you guessed it, I was told that I clearly wasted my life and didn't study properly and I got what I deserved. I personally don't think my grades were terrible. I got enough to enrol into college (college isn't the same as it is in the US. You don't earn a degree until you pass university)
So when my mum and step douche found out my hours at college, they thought it would be a good idea to make me clean out the rabbit and the guinea pig (can't remember when we got her) EVERY SINGLE DAY. And the "garden" has to be swept every day... by me. And if it was not done properly, I was the one to get shit for it. He was also one of those people that it had to be done HIS WAY. Any other way was considered wrong
There was also a moment around this time where I woke up on a Sunday or it night have been the step douches day off. I was first up and I started making my own breakfast. He walked into the kitchen and he IMMEDIATELY started shouting at me. What he said was "I can't fucking believe this. You cunts are all the same. You all come down to our country and turn it into a shit hole. If I had my way, I'd send all you dirty cunts back to Scotland and rebuild Hadrians Wall so you can't get back through." I don't know what I did to cause that... unless he found toast offensive.
2012 hit and I was forced into a part time job... McDonald's it was awful. But this is why... she wanted more money. I earned and £120 every 2 weeks and she wanted... £120 every 2 weeks. My entire pay. Because I'm apparently Terrible with money. I must also add that when my bank statements came in the post, she would open them to make sure I wasn't lying. So essentially, I was working for free.
I ended up running off again... So my sister got a new phone and it ended up going missing. Now it somehow ended up under my pillow and they found it there and hell broke loose. They were actually going to force me to live with my dad, but at this time, we still weren't talking. Locked in the room once again but I got out at 1am and ran off. Was found the following day and what did step douche do after I got home and the police left? Threw me into my room and kicked me in the stomach... And locked me in.
2013... ok. I need to give some context because this year was the worst I've had for various reasons and this is the first time I've made it public. Halfway through 2011, I was in a very short term relationship that ended in October. She re surfaced at the start of the year and was constantly stalking me. As soon as she found out that I was in another relationship... she called the police and accused me of... raping her. The police came to the door and I was arrested. The depression started to hit hard as I quit my job and this forced me to quit college.
I was also forced to live somewhere else during the investigation as I lived close to this girl. So they put me in a hostel... And the depression got worse. At first, my gf at that time ended things claiming I didn't care about her which hurt but then... I found out that my mum spoke to the police to try and send me to Scotland... I guess she didn't want a son who was falsely accused of rape. I then snapped. I got suicidal. I tried to take my life 3 times that week but backed out at the last second. When my friend found out that I tried to kill myself. He made sure that he was by my side every step of the way. He felt like the only person who knew I was innocent.
By October, the case was closed showing no evidence of rape. No DNA traces were found. I wasn't asked if I wanted to press charges but I never saw her again. I went back counselling to help me move on and try and deal with the depression.
It was around that time back in the family home where i found out that they didn't care about the dog they got at the start of that year. I was the once who had to walk her. 6 times a day. I was even forced to walk her as I was leaving the house to see friends.
Since I had nothing, I was on jobseekers allowance. But since I had income coming in, £60 a week... I never got that... it was my mum. She took my money. Leaving me with nothing.
One of my close friends got 2 free tickets to the expo for the Xbox One that was releasing soon and invited me to come along. It was a fun day... until my mum and step douche found out where I went. I have no clue why they cared but I should have spent every waking moment looking for work instead of "fucking off to try out some children's toy" I told him that my friend got tickets for free and invited me. Step douche got right in my face. " You answer me back once more and you will be living on the streets" Once again... a good day only leads to despair...
Christmas came around and I could have killed step douche on this day. I was doing work experience as it was mandatory as I was looking for work. My sister was unfortunately raped a month prior on her way to school. As it seemed like tradition, an arguement broke out because the cooking foil went missing and it was apparently my fault. I was even told that I ruined Christmas and I hope I'm happy. My sister was having none of it so she was going for a walk where step douche had to turn to her and say "yeah. Sure. Go out. Get yourself raped again you whore" I wanted to grab the nearest blunt object and smash it over his skull. What he just said was disgusting. All I can say... is that any occasion. Christmas... birthdays... Easter... they meant nothing to me anymore...
February rolled around as I left to see a friend. Before I left, I was told to walk the dog. I told step douche that he always does this as I'm out the door. He looked at me and "You just want to see that girl again" I responded with a confused look. He said "you just want to rape her again" I was shocked. He used one of the most traumatic experiences against me. I couldn't move. He left the house and before I left to see my friend... I grabbed a knife... And cut myself...
March hit and I started the Prince's Trust team programme which I was accepted into. I joined as it grants a qualification, which could help me get some work after. My mum actually seemed happy that I joined something that could help... Step douche said that I should be working instead of wasting time as this would go nowhere... I paid no mind to him. But he made sure that I would suffer constantly bringing it up and even causing arguments about me being unemployed.
As we reached May... he lost it. An argument broke out between him and my sister. And then I heard it. Impact. Of a fist and my sister's cry of pain. My mum ran upstairs to see what he did. He grabbed her by the neck, threw hero on the bed and started punching her. I ran into the room, grabbed him and threw a punch. He then punched me 4 times in the face before grabbing My neck... strangling me. I grabbed his neck doing the same hoping he would release his grip until he shoved me into the wall... I couldn't walk. I crawled out of the room, gasping for air... we left the house... only for my mum to move back in with him... a day later.
As August hit, princes trust was finished a month prior, my counsellor had to resign as there was restructuring happening and I got a new job... I got £800 a month... £300 was take every month... But I was expected to spend more buying takeaways, alcohol and cigarettes for them. That was because I didn't get fired on the second day because... Step douche didn't let me go to work because I didn't walk the dog. I was running late and I had to go... but i didn't get the chance. Then I was threatened that if I lose my job... I'd have no home...
A few months later, they thought it would be a good idea to adopt a puppy. 2 dogs in a small flat. Shouldn't have happened. As the puppy was growing fast, he was big. I then thought "he could be a pitbull" which is a banned breed. I was told by step douche to "stop being a fear mongering cunt" and threatened to raise my housekeeping to £400.
I don't remember much of 2015 apart from when I left my job to work in a supermarket on nightshift. The same place my mum worked although she worked days. It was roughly this time that the douchbag left his job for "depression". I was secretly calling his bluff.
The time between then and August 2016 was more of the same. Threats, abuse, arguments etc. But as August hit, I finally started my youtube channel. (I won't post the name but feel free to ask) this however... angered my mum. All because I didn't ask her... until she found out that I can potentially make money. Then it was "when am I getting paid for it." I felt like I was a god damn piggy bank.
2017 was the year I planned on moving with 2 friends but nothing came from that. But as we were looking, I was at home washing some dishes when step douche came in and said "I can't wait until you move because I won't have to deal with your fucking shit any longer." I just responded with "Well I can't wait because i wont need to deal with your abuse any longer" He responded with a punch which my mum thought was justified.
I got a new job that only lasted a month and a half in 2018. Step douche got worse. He was making up pure lies. Tried to get me to delete my youtube, wanted more money but I snapped when I heard him givemy mum and ultimatum. Either I go or he goes. My mum never answered him... I did. I buried the hatchet with my biological dad a year prior and started a new leaf. I told him and he asked me if I wanted to move in with him. I said yes. He had to get his car through an MOT the following weekend but the weekend after that... I moved. I only then realised that those 2 really cared about cash as they wanted me to clear my bank account, leaving it at 0. I didn't do that
Moving was the best decision ever. I still speak to my mum but step douche is out of my life forever. I did... for whatever reason stayed at their house when I was visiting but I told my mum I'm not ever visiting again after he attacked one of my friends who was clearly recovering from cancer and it was too much for me to take.
I am suffering from PTSD and anxiety from that whole decade but handling it fine. My dad is with a new woman who is kind and helpful. He also told me that all the stuff he did, he regrets every single day. And he was able to prove that my mum lied as he had evidence. Things are looking better for me.
The main reasons why I wrote this was not to get my story out there... But to give those who are suffering with parents like that hope. It's hard but of you can keep strong and try and power through the darkness, then the light at the end of the tunnel will shine upon you. That is where the road of recovery can begin
Thank you for reading this... overly long re telling of my life...

2020.03.27 20:06 Gregg_Hughes Microsoft's Billion Dollar Android Blunder

Twelve Years ago, Microsoft made a billion dollar blunder. I was reading about it this morning, and was surprised to find that there's not much documentation online.
So I thought I'd tell the tale, in case anyone's curious.
In 2007, Apple released the iPhone. But it was not the first smartphone.
Prior to the iPhone, most agreed that ONE company was at the head of the pack:
Danger.com
As someone who worked in the industry, Danger was THE phone to have. There wasn't anything else that was even close. Nearly every smart phone feature was pioneered by Danger. These include location services, web browsing, downloadable games, an app store, multimedia messaging, multimedia playback and more.
I think that one of the things that contributed to Danger's advanced features was that Danger was founded in Silicon Valley and it was founded by engineers who came from Apple. The founders were Andy Rubin, Joe Britt, and Matt Hershenson. Andy Rubin founded Android four years after he founded Danger.
In the years between 2003 and 2008, to succeed in the emerging smart phone market, you needed three things:
3) Great software
2) A wireless provider
1) A phone manufacturer
In my opinion, these three requirements led to a bit of a 'shakeout' among the competitors. For instance, the iPhone had great software, a great provider (AT&T) and the manufacturing might of Apple.
Does anyone remember Pixo? They were struggling to compete with Danger, but as I saw it, they weren't able to partner with a wireless provider and they didn't have manufacturing might. They disappeared after a few years, but their software wound up on a device you may have heard of: the iPod.
A little company named Motorola was also working on a quasi smart phone. But everyone that I knew in the industry, none of us were impressed by it. Danger was light years ahead. The Motorola "iTunes Phone" came and went with little fanfare. There's a YouTube video about the history of the iPhone that indicates that Steve Jobs had two teams working on separate iPhone projects simultaneously. I didn't work for Apple so I don't have any 'insider info' about that, but it's an interesting story.
Speaking of Steve Jobs, he faced a disaster with one of his investments, which would later happen to Danger and largely kill it... IMHO. In 1998, Pixar had a backup failure which nearly cost them $100,000,000. If it wasn't for a stroke of luck, Pixar might not exist.
In 2005, the prevailing attitude among smart phone fans was that Danger was the best device, IMHO. Blackberry had a good product, but Danger was better. Pixo and Motorola made forays into the smart phone arena, that never caught on.
In 2007, Apple stole the crown from Danger, producing the most advanced phone.
One of the challenges faced by Danger, IMHO, was that they were partnered with T-Mobile. A great company, but nowhere near as big as AT&T or Verizon. T-Mobile was also the first wireless provider to release an Android phone, in 2008.
As noted earlier in the post, to have a successful smart phone, you need software, manufacturing, and wireless providers. By 2008, the world of smart phones had coalesced around four groups:
In 2008, Microsoft entered the arena, with an acquisition of Danger for $500,000,000.
What happened to Danger between 2006 and 2009 is a bit of a mystery. We know that 1/3rd of it's founders went on to Android, but two of the three original founders of Danger continued on at Microsoft, after the acquisition. At the time, I remember getting the impression that most of my colleagues were excited about Android and iPhone, and a lot of the momentum that Danger had, seemed to evaporate after the 2007 release of the iPhone. Another factor in the iPhone (and T-Mobile's) success, was that the AT&T iPhone could be easily modified to work on T-Mobile's network. This was a big deal - it meant that T-Mobile users who had a Danger device could easily replace it with an Apple iPhone. IMHO, this has played a huge role in T-Mobile's success. In 2008, T-Mobile wasn't a very big company, they were the little wireless company nipping at the heels of AT&T and VZW. But their size and willingness to innovate rewarded them well, as they were arguably THE best provider for smart phone users during that era. (Verizon Wireless famously declined to partner with Apple :
(Side note : internally, nearly everyone called it "a Danger Device." The "hiptop" name never stuck, and I got the impression that the folks from Danger used that nomenclature because the plan was to have lots of "Danger Devices", not just the Sidekick. I think this was a marketing move; if the folks from Danger called it "a Sidekick" this would imply that T-Mobile was the only provider, and that was never the plan. Similar to the Android that followed later, the idea was to sell "Danger Devices" across multiple wireless providers and multiple manufacturers. A very different approach than Apple, Nokia, Sony or Ericsson.)
By 2008, all the pieces were in place for Danger to take on the iPhone and Android. They had at least a four year head start. They had thousand (possibly millions?) of customers. They had hardware partnerships. They had features that the iPhone and Android lacked.
And then somebody blew it all up.
In October of 2009, Microsoft lost the data of it's $500,000,000 acquisition.
Reportedly, this was caused by a failed upgrade.
As I was involved in the project, let me speculate what may have happened. (Note: I was involved with Danger early on, and my speculation is based on how Danger was set up, technically.)
Danger was way ahead of the curve in many, many ways. These guys included features in their product which Apple and Google wouldn't have for years. In particular, all user data was in Danger's cloud. For instance, Danger would do this demo where they'd put some items into a Danger Device, destroy the device, take the sim out, put it in a new device, and voila! The data is back. Android and IOS are different; they periodically back up to their cloud.
The Danger Cloud used a Hitach HDS SAN for it's storage. This is a big ol' million dollar "storage area network." The SAN is protected from data loss via the use of RAID. Basically if you have a disk fail, you can rebuild the disk. Here's something super important though: this will not save you from accidentally deleting your data. For instance, Pixar nearly lost $100,000,000 when someone accidentally deleted nearly the entire movie. This is a really important part of our story here; it's very likely that someone made a mistake and deleted Danger's data.
Another important part of the Danger story, is that they'd been acquired a year prior to the disaster. It takes a while for companies to integrate new acquisitions. It wouldn't surprise me, to find that the Danger Cloud was likely moved from a T-Mobile data center to a Microsoft data center. Literal "lift and shift", you put the SAN on a truck and you just move it somewhere else.
Which brings us to the next question: Why weren't there backups? I don't have the answer to that question, but I've been involved in enough acquisitions to know that sometimes things simply don't get done. Sometimes you acquire a software company and it's assets and that means physically moving them from one data center to another, and sometimes things like backups simply don't get done. In 2009, an HDS SAN would typically be backed up to tape, and those tape libraries are generally shared.
Technically, I'm going into the weeds, but the bottom line is: Danger dot com lost all of it's user data in 2009. Emails, photos, music, etc... G-O-N-E.
And an incredibly important part of this sad tale is that it wasn't possible for users to simply re-sync to the Danger cloud. Their data wasn't on their Danger Devices it was in the Danger cloud.
Imagine if you're the CEO of T-Mobile, and you've sold thousands of Danger Devices, and now your users are returning the devices by the truck load because they just lost three years worth of their prized photos. Or the users are wary of using a device which randomly ceases to function. Not a good look for T-Mobile, and eight months after that fateful outage, T-Mobile discontinued sales and support for ALL Danger Devices.
And THAT is the ignominious end of the story. With the right support and development, I think Microsoft's Danger Devices had the opportunity to give Google and Apple a run for their money. Things might look very different today; imagine an ecosystem where there are three mobile platforms.
The tech field is always re-inventing itself. If anyone remembers the Commodore Amiga, it's last address was next door to a Microsoft office... which T-Mobile later acquired, and two miles from the offices of Nintendo. Redmond is an interesting place to work.

2020.03.11 16:14 _Electronic_Benefit_ ONLINE GAMING

WHAT IS ONLINE GAMING?
Electronic game worlds have generated billions of dollars, with millions of players around the world fighting, buying, crafting, and selling in a variety of online environments. One of the most populous was Activision Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. The massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) drew millions of subscribers, who brought the company an estimated $1 billion per year in retail sales and subscription fees from 2007 to 2010. MMOGs differ from traditional computer games in a number of important ways. First, Internet connectivity is a prerequisite for all MMOGs, as the games can be played only after logging in to the server that hosts the game world (popular MMOGs require dozens of such servers to accommodate their larger player bases). Second, the social networking aspect of interacting with thousands of players worldwide frequently overshadows the game content itself. A 2006 study found that almost one-third of female players and nearly 10 percent of male players had dated someone they met in a game. Third, most MMOGs operate on a subscription basis, charging a monthly fee in addition to the initial purchase price of the game software. Some companies offer frequent downloadable “patches” of new game content to make these monthly fees more palatable to players, while others offer their games free of charge to players who are willing to tolerate a stream of in-game advertisements.
From MUDs To MMOGs
Though World of Warcraft and other MMOGs utilize the advanced graphics and high-end processing power typical of the current generation of personal computers (PCs), online gaming had its roots in some of the earliest computing technologies. By the late 1970s many universities in the United States were linked by ARPANET (see DARPA), a precursor to the Internet. The structure of ARPANET allowed users to connect their computers or terminals to a central mainframe computer and interact in what was close to real time. In 1980 ARPANET was linked to the University of Essex, Colchester, England, where two undergraduate students had written a text-based fantasy adventure game that they called MUD, or “multiuser dungeon.” When the first outside users connected to MUD through ARPANET, online gaming was born. Soon other programmers expanded on the original MUD design, adding graphic flourishes, chat functions, and player groups (or guilds). These basic features, as well as the fantasy setting, carried over into the next generation of online games, which were the first true MMOGs.
BIRTH OF VIRTUAL ECONOMIES
Another issue that game publishers have had to face is the rise of secondary economies outside their game worlds. Ultima Online designers were the first to observe this phenomenon at work when a castle in their game world sold for several thousand dollars on the online auction site eBay. This was the beginning of a market valued at more than $1 billion by 2006. Players spend hours earning in-game wealth, hunting for rare weapons, and gaining power and prestige for their characters so that the fruits of their virtual labours can be exchanged for real cash. The buyer and seller agree on a purchase price, the funds can be transferred electronically, and the two can then meet in the game world to complete the transaction. Some Chinese companies have turned this into serious business, employing hundreds of “gold farmers,” who play games in an effort to hoard resources that can be sold to players in South Korea or the United States. Most MMOG companies sought to control this behaviour by banning the accounts of suspected gold farmers (e.g., Activision Blizzard has closed tens of thousands of such accounts since World of Warcraft went online), and eBay began enforcing a ban on the sale of virtual items in 2007. Sony co-opted the secondary market when it launched Station Exchange, a service designed to facilitate the buying and selling of virtual goods in its EverQuest games. Linden Lab was the first company, however, to design a game around a virtual economy. That game was Second Life.
Social Gaming
With the explosive growth of social media in the early 21st century, developers sought to capitalize on the opportunities presented by Web sites such as Facebook and Myspace. They utilized animation programs such as Flash to create a Web-based gaming experience that was comparable to older home consoles. With their simplified game play and cartoonlike graphics, these games had wide appeal, and many of them offered incentives for players to recruit additional players into the game. The most successful “Facebook games”—notably Zynga’s Mafia Wars (2008) and Farmville (2009) and EA’s The Sims Social (2011)—maximized revenue by rewarding players for interacting with advertising partners and selling in-game currency.

2020.02.28 12:50 frukthjalte I have to write an essay the upcoming week, so naturally, my brain decided to do this instead of actually reading the relevant literature... "A criminological analysis on Dustin Broke's situation in The Sims".

A criminological analysis of Dustin Broke's situation in "The Sims"

Ah, Dustin Broke. It is shown in The Sims 3 that the Broke family have a history of economic exclusion, which, according to countless studies, is one of the biggest risk factors for criminality. The majority of the family members also have the "Party Animal" trait in this version of the game; this could be interpreted as a family history of substance abuse and/or low self control -- so, yet two other risk factors, according to several studies within the criminological field.Furthermore, in The Sims 2, Dustin's father (Skip Broke) is absent. According to Wong et. al. (2010), a risk factor for both young males and females is "Low-quality father-child relationship" (p. 276), as well as having a convicted father (ibid.). A risk factor unique for young males, according to the authors, is "Single parenthood" (ibid.). It is plausible that Skip Broke led a not so "ideal" life style; since he is no longer alive by The Sims 2, this obviously means that Brandi is a single mother.
In the Broke's family biography, it is stated that Skip Broke died following a "pool ladder accident". This is a nod to the fact that some players of the original The Sims habitually removed the ladders from their families' pool area; because the Sims weren't able to get out of the water without a ladder, this eventually led to them dying from exhaustion. However, in the context of the family biography, this means that Brandi Broke intentionally removed the pool ladder while her husband was swimming (as opposed to the incident being caused by an active player). A woman killing her intimate partner in a heterosexual relationship is extremely uncommon; when it does occur, it seems to be as a result of prolonged abuse from the partner in question (Bureau of Justice Statistics [BJS], 2011), This leads to two potential problems, connected to one another, in the case of Dustin Broke. First of all, it is likely that he has been exposed to violence for the majority of his upbringing. Second, this puts him at risk for developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), according to some researchers (e.g. Margolin & Vickerman, 2007). This type of reactive disorder might cause a variety of intra- and interpersonal issues, which then might cause Dustin to behave "antisocially", have seemingly unprovoked bursts of anger, and being emotionally distant in general. This could potentially have him deemed "difficult" by members of "conventional society", causing these people to distance themselves from Dustin Broke. This, naturally, further decreases his chances to participate in a "conventional society".
When it comes to social life, some studies (e.g. De Coster et. al., 2012) have found that associating with delinquent peers increases delinquency in young males, but not young females (s. 324). By the time the story in The Sims 2 takes off, Dustin's social circle is rather limited: aside from his mother and baby brother Beau (with whom he is only "acquainted"), he is "Going Steady" with Angela Pleasant. Angela's father, Daniel Pleasant, however, is considered an "Enemy" by Dustin Broke. The only friend Dustin seems to have is his literal partner in crime, Gordon King. According to The Sims Wiki, since it is impossible for teenagers (such as Dustin) to get into a fight with an adult, this fight must have taken place when they were both the same age; this means that the two have known each other for quite some time, which would potentially increase Dustin's loyality towards Gordon, and thus, his immersion into a delinquent life style (n.d.).
Concerning Dustin's feelings towards Daniel Pleasant, one cause for this could be that Daniel fears that Angela will be influenced by Dustin's deviant life style. This fear is not completely baseless, as several studies have shown that intimate relationships with a criminal person increases the risk of future deviance for females, whereas the opposite is true for males, who tend to "marry out of delinquency", so to speak (e.g. Andersen et. al., 2015). Another potential cause is Daniel's awareness of his own risk-taking behaviors (e.g. his extramarital affair with the family maid); despite knowing that this relationship is morally wrong he keeps it up, and when he recognizes his own traits in Dustin, this becomes a great source of anxiety -- moreso due to his own situation, rather than Angela potentially falling into a criminal path in the future.
On Dustin's end, however, this negative relationship could potentially work as a source of labelling (e.g. Mead, 1934; Tannenbaum, 1938). Labelling, then, is the process in which a delinquent individual "lives up" to other people's perception of them; the more convictions and disapproval being projected by others, the more deviant does the "labelled" individual become. As discussed above, it is plausible that Dustin already feels excluded both socially and economically, which would make it easier for him to accept the "deviant label", than it would be for someone with a steadier socioeconomical background and less delinquency-approving relationships.
So, how would one go about "saving" Dustin Broke from the life path he is currently on?
First of all, criminologists agree that delinquency during adolescence is very, very common -- so much so, that it is more worrying if an adolescent does not commit some minor offenses during these years. As mentioned above, labeling Dustin too harshly as a "criminal" could even worsen his situation, due to official sanctions' tendency to cut the individual off from what few ties they may have to "conventional society". It is, however, important to cut Dustin off from his current association with Gordon King, especially if this bond seems to last (or improve) over time, as this association could potentially decrease Dustin's willingness to associate with "conventional society". But, young people naturally wants to do everything the "adult world" disapproves of, as stated above. Thus, a more long-term solution could in fact be to decrease the intensity of the bond between Dustin and Gordon from the latter's end; if Gordon King gets out of his current delinquent life style, Dustin will no longer feel such an emotional bond to his criminal career, which would potentially decrease the "pull" to this life style.
Lastly, it seems Dustin is in urgent need of professional help to process his own (potential) PTSD. If he does not get a chance to deal with his traumatic experiences, he risks putting both himself and others at risk, especially if he keeps living his current deviant life style in the future.

2019.02.06 02:31 segagaga EA Massacre List Updated! (Feb 2019 ed.)

With the news in EAs earnings call, released today, that Battlefield 5 missed sales expectations by a wide margin. And of course other stories that EA has abandoned Titanfall 3 and the Star Wars RPG. I decided to update the list to include those those three studios who will now inevitably release games microtransanctioned into oblivion and the resulting poor sales will give EA the excuse it needs to close the studios.
For newcomers, below is a list of studios in chronological order:
1998: Original Electronic Arts HQ in San Mateo, California - "moved" to Redwood City and then ceased to develop games, they were their own first victim.
2000: "EA Baltimore" in Baltimore, Maryland - established in 1996 as part of Origin, acquired in 1992. Origin half-dead.
2001: Kesmai (known also as GameStorm); acquired in 1999.
2001: Bullfrog Productions (Syndicate) in Surrey, England - acquired in 1995
2002: "EA Seattle" in Seattle, Washington - formerly Manley & Associates, acquired in 1996
2003: Westwood Studios (Command & Conquer) in Las Vegas, Nevada - acquired in 1998.
2003: "EA Pacific" in Irvine, California - formerly Virgin Interactive, acquired in 1998.
2004: Origin Systems (Wing Commander) in Austin, Texas - acquired in 1992, Origin fully dead.
2004: Maxis in Walnut Creek, California - acquired in 1997, "moved" to Redwood.
Mid 2005: EA withdraws Criterion RenderWare from the middleware market, effectively killing Criterion Software.
Mid 2006: EA closed the Criterion Games Derby office, making all of its programmers and support staff redundant. Acquired in Aug 2004.
2006: DICE Canada in London, Ontario (created Battlefield 2: Special Forces expansion, Battlefield Vietnam, and all BF2 patches). Acquired DICE fully October 2, 2006; closed DICE Canada studio literally hours later.
2007: NuFX (NBA Street) - Purchased by EA in 2004.
2007: EA Japan in Tokyo, Japan - closed due to consolidation; "moved" under EA Partners mode
2007: EA UK in Chertsey, United Kingdom, "relocated" to Guildford.
March 2007: EA "combined" the Chertsey-based UK development studio and Criterion Games into the new building in central Guildford.
2007: EA Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Closed due to failure to meet profit targets.
2009: Pandemic (The Saboteur) fully closed - Purchased by EA in 2008.
2011: "EA Brightlight" closed, at EA Guildford.
Sept 2013: Criterion staff numbers cut to 17 people total.
2013: DreamWorks Interactive /Danger Close / "EA Los Angeles" (Medal of Honor) - Purchased by EA in 2000.
2013: Phenomic (SpellForce, BattleForge) - Purchased by EA in 2006.
2013: Black Box Games (Need for Speed, Skate) - Purchased by EA in 2002.
2013: PlayFish (The Sims) - Closed with no merger. Purchased by EA in 2009.
Jan 2014: Criterion co-founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry left "Criterion" reducing it to just 15 possible max staff. Its effectively dead.
Feb 2014: studio-wide layoffs at Ghost Games UK (Need for Speed), this includes some former Criterion staff.
2014: Mythic (Dark Age of Camelot) closed, purchased in 2006.
Mar 2015: Maxis studio at Emeryville (SimCity, The Sims) closed, acquired in 1997.
October 2017: Visceral Entertainment EA cancels all development and closes. Star Wars development moved to EA Vancouver.
January 2019: EA Vancouver cancels Star War open world project "Orca". Lay-offs expected.
Current executions-in-progress:
BioWare: disastrous launch of outsourced MassEffect Andromeda, strong indication of heavy EA corruption. Anthem looks troubled. Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare, leaves Jul 2017. Creative Director Mike Laidlaw leaves Oct 2017. Lead Designer James Ohlen, leaves July 2018.
"EA DICE" formerly DICE Sweden: large backlash over both Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 5, strong indications that EA's influence growing at DICE. Battlefield 5 missed its sales expectation by over a million units. EA stocks drop by 20% from 92 to 73.
Respawn Entertainment Feb 2019: EA cancels Titanfall 3, releases Apex Legends a microtransactioned F2P battle royale clone, and Respawn now is working on an unnamed Star Wars project, 3 out of 4 of which EA has cancelled.
I will endeavor to continue to update this list as the asset-stripping EAvents unfold.
TLDR: EA fiscal reports Battlefield sales expectations missed by over a million units and EAs stock plummets by 20%, expect EA to pick a studio for the blame game and close it.

[Record Parenting] Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam - I Had A Dream... & Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

Awwww, shit… we got a twofer.
Hamilton Leithauser + Rotsam - I Had A Dream That You Were Mine (2016)
Background: A fairly recent one from the lead singer of The Walkmen and the true music genius behind Vampire Weekend (talk about Koenig all you want, Rostam’s solo work speaks for itself). Still, I was never a big fan of either band. I recognized a few songs from The Walkmen (Heaven era stuff) when they were on the radio and dug them. As for Vampire Weekend, I saw them in 2008 (“A-Punk,” “Oxford Comma,” & “Cape Cod Skwassa Kwassa”) open up for Lupe Fiasco; they were fine, nothing that pushed me to pick up Contra when it came out.
Really, the band didn’t click for me until Modern Vampires of the City came out. Holy shitballs, that’s the indie rock album to end all indie rock albums. “Diane Young” was the song that won me over, but “Hannah Hunt” may be one of my favorite songs of all-time. My wife and I even chose it for our first-dance at our wedding (close second: “Goodbye Horses”). I could go on, but I’ll save that album for another time.
Then they broke up (or hiatus or whatever), which seemed like the cool thing to do at the height of their success. A few years later, I heard the first single from I Had a Dream…, the title track, I knew it was worth getting. Assuming you dig inventive well-produced indie and doo-wop, this album’s hard not to love. Pitchfork (all hail Pitchfork) named it #35 Best Album for 2016, so it’s got that going for it, which is nice. I wanted to seem them live, almost dragging friends with us to see them while we were visiting Denver, but it never came together.
The Session: We started at about 9:30am in the morning. It was feeding time and we needed something good. My wife was awake, so I decided to go for something we both enjoyed (she enjoys a lot, but it’s not all overlap). When I started the first song, neither of us were expecting the response we would have. It begins, “I had a dream that you were mine, I had that dream a thousand times,” something I always associated with romantic love, i.e., finding your partner. But here, holding our tiny son, the song took on new meaning, and we both became a little emotional.
From there, it moves to the real hero of the album, “Sick as a Dog” — “I use the saaaaaaaammmme voice I always had”— the super doo-woppy “Rough Going (I Won’t Let Up),” the darkly nostalgic “Blackout,” and the dope banjo on “Peaceful Morning.” I also really dig the way Leithauser’s voice gets all screechy at the end of that one.
The whole time, the little guy is feasting. His eyes are open, so I know he’s listening, but he just developed a brow a few days ago, so who knows if a furrowed one means he’s thinking. We flip to Side B and continue on. I think this side is a bit weaker (only in comparison to Side A), but I really like the Dylan-impression on “The Bride’s Dad” and the chorus from “The Morning Stars” (“If that man that you need, honestly wasn’t me, tell me honey, who could that be?”). By the time the side ends, he’s milk drunk and rubbery, ready for another nap.
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues (2011)
Background: Two folk records in one day? Is I Had A Dream… folk? I must be getting soft. Still, it seemed like the perfect lullaby record for late night dining. I know some people are totally devoted to them, but I was never a huge Fleet Foxes guy. I’m more of a Tillman fan; Pecknold always seemed to optimistic. Then again, I suppose children deserve a little optimism.
The album came out the summer I was leaving Providence, RI; I have distinct memories driving through down Prospect st. (on the east side) listening to the title-track on satellite radio. That was also the year I got my first turntable, probably 6 months before that. I’m not sure when I picked up the physical LP, but it was before I got Discogs (hence the inability to date). To be honest, it must have been on sale— I’m not sure I would have grabbed it otherwise.
For those who know the album, words can’t do it justice. Stunning beautiful throughout, it conjures deep, complicated feelings about history, inheritance, and expectation. More than that, the entire album flows incredibly well, with one track moving into the next so seamlessly you can’t help but consume it all at once. If you’re into the folky shit and prefer Simon and Garfunkel over Dylan (I prefer Dylan, but still…), I highly recommend this one. Pitchfork (all hail Pitchfork) gave it #15 for 2011; Rolling Stone ranked in #4.
The Session: Around 8pm, we thought we had it made. The little guy was totally asleep, so we snuck in an episode of Maisel, thinking we could goto bed after, but we got ahead of ourselves. Right as the episode finished, he let out a roar, making known his intentions to dine. I set my wife up on the chair, babe on pillow, then went to find the right record (spoiler: it was Fleet Foxes).
We start with the welcoming voice of Pecknold, beckoning us like a found-soul, evoking “Oh man what I used to be, oh man, oh my, oh me” then transitioning into equally poignant “Bedouin Dress” and “Sim Sala Bim.” By the time Side B comes around, he’s still eating, but slowly falling asleep. We get to “Helpless Blues,” Pecknold’s own mediation on fatherhood and purpose, and I think he’s ready for bed. Mom starts heading that direction and I try setting him in the robot crib, but he wakes up just in time. It’s obvious, he wants to finish the album.
I spend Side C and D walking back and forth, rocking him slowly in my arms, trying to tire him out. We get to “The Shrine/An Argument,” my contender for the best track, and he looks suspiciously asleep, like he’s waiting for me put him down just so he can spring back to life. I tip-toe to the back, strap him in, and somehow make it out with him still passed out to enjoy “Grown Ocean” by my lonesome.
Would love to hear other people’s thoughts on either Rostam, Vampire Weekend, or Fleet Foxes or, really, if anyone has a Walkmen album to recommend. As always, the number for Child Protective Services is listed below.
Today, folk; tomorrow, grindcore?

2018.11.04 18:05 jmo112 THE 1PLUS12 SCAM

1PLUS12 IS A SCAM.
www.1plus12.com
This post is intended to warn the public to stay away from this company. If you are a current investor with the company, I recommend you get independent legal counsel immediately.
1Plus12 is run by a con artist named Mo Jiwani who now goes by the alias "Sai Mohammed." Along with a man named Glenn Estrabillo, Jiwani co-founded 1Plus12 in 2013, his latest in a long line of fraudulent ventures dating back at least 18 years.
Before coming to Toronto in 2013, Jiwani spent several years in BC and Alberta, where he co-founded a scam called Dexior Financial. Jiwani’s model has not changed, hosting financial seminars full of enticing information and examples of profit potential before presenting investment “opportunities” to softened participants whereby investors lose all the money they “invest.”
Over a number of years, Jiwani raised more than $35 million dollars for Dexior and related companies. Dexior eventually declared bankruptcy in 2008, losing investors at least 95% of their capital. According to bankruptcy trustee Michael Cheevers, Dexior had invested in a number of ill-conceived investments, with a further $8 million of that capital never having been accounted for. How much of that went directly to Jiwani is uncertain. What is clear is that tens of millions of dollars, including many families’ entire life savings was lost, causing unimaginable financial harm to many naïvely hopeful, trusting investors.
Unfazed by Dexior’s catastrophe, Jiwani started a new scheme called eConventus Holdings in 2011 with another fraudster, Maisie Smith, where he was evidently shameless enough to tell seminar participants that 81% of his clients had experienced “massive amounts of success.” This only a couple years after ALL his clients lost the entire value of their investments with him.
After being exposed by the press for his scams in 2011, Jiwani disappeared from the west coast which eventually brought him to Toronto. There are many newspaper articles written on his fraudulent history that can verify all the above statements, including articles from the Vancouver Sun and Canadian Business (links below):

In 2013, Jiwani showed up in Toronto under the alias "Sai Mohammed" where he founded 1Plus12. He used this alias so that people would trust him, and would not read about his history of fraud. But 1Plus12, like all of Mo Jiwani's previous "investment opportunities" is another scam.
As court documents have revealed, many of the transactions 1Plus12 invests in are done in partnership with the criminal Arash Missaghi. Missaghi has been charged with fraud and has a long history of criminal activity including being charged with conspiracy to commit murder in 2009 (this charge was later dropped). The Toronto Star and other newspapers have written up about his crimes, you can read recent articles here:
https://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2018/03/06/four-arrested-in-17m-mortgage-fraud-investigation.html
https://torontolife.com/city/crime/bridle-path-mansion-missing-millions-investigation-blew-open-massive-mortgage-scam/
A few months ago, a former client and investor sued 1Plus12. This client claims that the properties 1Plus12 invested in had no security for investors registered on title, and that 1Plus12 had fraudulently misrepresented real estate opportunities.
With his hand forced by the lawsuit, Glenn Estrabillo admitted in an affidavit submitted to court that a staggering $8 million dollars of investors’ money had been given to Arash Missaghi since 2013, including a whopping $1,486,854.35 as loans “for general purposes.”
What security, if any, existed for these funds is anyone’s guess, and since it was advanced to a criminal with a history of cheating secured creditors, it may never be recovered. It is worth mentioning that much of this money was advanced to Missaghi after he was already exposed by the press, with the full knowledge that he was a crook.
Exhibit G from Estrabillo’s affidavit includes email exchanges between Jiwani (writing under his alias “Sai Mohammed”) and Arash Missaghi’s partner. In an email dated January 19, 2018 Jiwani writes “this weekend I am handing two groups re gather security of their capital and needed Ara’s help in explaining Prince George and 24th Street and the and Welland.”
Do investors realize Arash Missaghi, a criminal charged with fraud, was needed to explain their investments? Of course Jiwani needed the help; since in their recent statement of claim against Missaghi, Jiwani and Estrabillo admit that Missaghi never even owned the Prince George property, and simply took the money without providing any security whatsoever. The same is likely true of the other two properties. Is this what investors signed up for when paying $30,000 in annual “tuition” for elite investing education? I’m sure Missaghi would have been happy to steal investors’ money without charging an additional fee for “mentorship.”
The Ontario Securities Commission has already discovered the working relationship between Missaghi and Jiwani, as is evidenced in this cease trading order of a related company, MoneyGate MIC, paragraph 10 a:
https://www.osc.gov.on.ca/documents/en/Proceedings-OTH/oth_20170407_moeny-gate.pdf
Jonathane Ricci, a former attorney who acted as solicitor for 1Plus12 and their clients (and still works for them) had his license suspended by the Law Society. One of his websites claims that he is standing for "solicitor-client privilege" but what it does not tell you, and what he likely does not want you to know, is that Ricci was suspended because he failed to co-operate with the Law Society's investigation into several suspiciously fraudulent real estate transactions for which he acted as an attorney.
Ricci is not standing up for solicitor-client privilege, his bogus argument went nowhere in court. He is hiding evidence of fraud. To protect Jiwani, Missaghi, and himself. And those fraudulent real estate transactions? If you’ve invested with 1Plus12, your money likely went towards them.
Here is a reference to Ricci on the Canadian Legal Information Institute website:
"Jonathane Ricci ... was also being investigated by the Law Society for involvement in a number of possibly fraudulent real estate transactions connected to AM (Arash Missaghi). He had refused to produce files and records relating to these matters and was found to have committed professional misconduct: Law Society of Upper Canada v. Ricci, 2016 ONLSTH 58 (CanLII)."
You can find the above at this link, paragraph 19:
https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onlst/doc/2017/2017onlsth15/2017onlsth15.html
Here is further reading on the Law Society’s investigations into Ricci:
https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onlst/doc/2016/2016onlsth58/2016onlsth58.html
Ricci’s license suspension on suspicion of fraud is unfortunately all too common among Jiwani’s associates. Roberta Merlin McIntosh, who worked under Jiwani to raise capital for Dexior from her insurance clientele (many of them vulnerable senior citizens) similarly had her insurance license revoked for posing a “serious risk to the public” as well as being served a 10 year ban/) by the BC Securities Commission. Jiwani’s Dexior partner, Gerard Kalifa (who likely provided the template for Jiwani’s fraud-disguising name change) changed his name to Gerard Darmon after being served a 3 year ban from the Alberta Securities Commission. Maisie Smith, Jiwani’s partner in eConventus Holdings, has been permanently banned by the BC Securities Commission along with a $500,000 fine for “posing a serious risk to our capital markets.” Ricci’s license suspension and Missaghi’s criminal fraud charges fall into a similar mold. This is not coincidence. It is a pattern.
Jiwani is an undischarged bankrupt, having entered bankruptcy in 2001 and remaining bankrupt to this day. According to Canadian law, someone in bankruptcy cannot be a director of a corporation. Despite this fact, Jiwani holds directorships of various corporations under his alias “Sai Mohammed,” which is not his legal name. As attorneys are required to identify clients, either Jiwani deceived Ricci and possibly other attorneys, or they colluded with Jiwani in breaking the law.
If you know someone who has invested, they need independent legal counsel immediately. If you have been invited to a seminar, do not attend and tell whoever invited you to get out immediately. DO NOT give your money to these con artists. You will regret it. Jiwani is not a “wealth enhancement expert,” his expertise is swindling investors of their hard earned cash.

Amazingly, these fraudsters are still doing seminars (November 24-25 and December 8-9) as you can see on their homepage.

Stay Away.
