2020.12.05 06:33 Camoox This should be a movie.

this is u/fakejew story. I’ve lied to everyone in my life for 20 years that I’m Jewish...
I’m not jewish, not even a little bit. If you asked me any questions about judaism, I couldn’t tell you, but still, everyone thinks I’m jewish.
It all started in high school, 11th grade. I had just moved from California to The South and it was a rough time. I was called every horrible name in the book because I talked different and got the shit beat out of me multiple times. Well I slowly befriended some of the guys on the football team and my closest friend was the center, we’ll call him Greg. Now Greg is a super chill guy compared to everyone around him, but he’s still very very racist and very open about all his opinions.
Well one day I’m driving Greg and a few other football players home from school and he makes a comment about synagogues. Without even thinking, I mention that I’ve been to one... and this is where it all started. This prompted one of the other guys to joke that I was a Jew, and trying to be chill (since these were the only friends I had) I went “haha, yep, I’m jewish.” And then that’s when it all went down hill. Greg told everyone on the football team how his new friend from California was a Jew, and they all believed it since most of them thought there were only Jews in California anyways. And the football players spread that to the rest of the school.
At this point, I still thought it was a joke and everyone was just jokingly calling me jewish, so I just kept going with it. Then I became known as “The Jewish kid” and started to actually become popular, since everyone wanted to be friends with the different kid, (and the fact my dad had money, a lot compared to the poor area I went to school, so I could afford to buy nice things and people tend to be attracted towards that). And so being Jewish almost became my identity, it became who I was. So whenever someone would ask my religion, I just automatically told them I was jewish.
Fast forwards to the end of high school, and the councilors are walking people through scholarship stuff, and my councilor calls me into his office and hand me a slip for a $5,000 Jewish American scholarship. Now as soon as I read jewish American scholarship, I was going to walk out and throw it out, but he made me sit down and fill it out with him, and then took it from me to submit it. I felt horrible for even doing it, but somewhat relieved when I heard that they only gave it to people who were also ethnically jewish, so I knew I wouldn’t get it.
I got it. I received a letter in the mail saying I was chosen as the winner of this $5000 scholarship, I got accepted to Dartmouth due to the fact I worked my ass off in high school and was the valedictorian, though my competition wasn’t plentiful to say the least. But I never thought I would have been able to afford it, but this scholarship was huge in helping me towards that. I considered spilling everything then, declining the scholarship, telling everyone at school, telling almost every single form I’ve filled out, saying I’m not actually jewish... I decided to tell my dad and ask him for advice as he’s always been a guy you can talk to about anything whatsoever. So I tell him everything, I tell him about the joke, then the lie, then everything, and now the scholarship (which I hadn’t told any of my family about because 1. I never thought I’d get it, and 2. They’d question why a very not jewish person is getting a jewish American scholarship) and as soon as I told my father, he looked me dead in the eyes with the most serious, disappointed face.... and then burst into tears laughing. The way he reacted, it must’ve been the funniest thing he’d ever heard in his life. He told me he had gotten a letter in the mail asking if I was ethnically jewish for a scholarship I had entered, and being the person he is, he just say the chance for college money and went “yep, jewish” and that was apparently all they need. So my dad convinced me to keep the money and go to my dream college, and I did.
As soon as I arrived at university, I was met with some people from the group that gave me this scholarship, some jewish American organization funded by wealthy Israelis, and they told me/enlisted me into all these jewish clubs and they got me set up in a synagogue, and I everyone there (I’d later learn 2 of the people there would be my professors, who were very jewish) and finally they told me they’d set me up with the whole “birthright” thing, where they fly American Jews out to Israel. I was so shocked, I was at my dream school, plus I was being hit with all of this, it was too much. I thought about coming clean a lot of times. But I feel like all the people around me would suddenly feel betrayed and leave me.
I became good friends with a lot of people in these jewish clubs, I bonded with my teachers a lot better since they believed I was jewish, I met the most beautiful jewish girl (who I met through her mother, when she came up to me in a cafe, asked if I was jewish, since I was with the local Rabbi, I said yes, and she told me that I’d love her daughter. We went on a date and instantly hit it off) and I got a free trip to Israel. All the while, I was dealing with severe depression since I felt horrible every second of every day, in addition to the already enormous amounts of stress university puts on you. I came so close, so many times to just throw myself off a bridge or tall building, but I could never bring myself to do it.
I managed to get all the way through 11 years of college to get my doctorate, got a job at a history museum back on the west coast, married that jewish girl, had a Jewish wedding with her entire family, and my two parents (my dad had spilled the beans to my mom about two days after I told him, she also found it equally as funny) we’ve had 3 little jewish babies, the museum put me in charge of organizing and creating a huge Holocaust/Jewish American history exhibit (even though that’s not my specific field even in the slightest.) And in a few months, when the current Curator retires at the age of 96, I will hopefully be taking his place. (He’s been training me for the job, I’ve worked there the longest, and I’ve made sure that I’m damn good at my job)
My life has turned out great but deep down it will always haunt me that my entire life, is built on a lie. My kids lives, my life, my wife’s life, all came from a joke in a car 20 years ago... I was never going to tell a soul this, but today my oldest son (he’s 9) told me that he doesn’t think he believes in god, and I told him I agreed. It was the first time in 20 years that I told the truth about my religion, and didn’t lie. My son wants to tell his mom that he doesn’t want to continue being Jewish and I might use this as my way of getting out as well... I told him we’d tell her tomorrow at dinner and he seems almost as excited as I am, but equally as nervous.
Wish us luck, I guess... I still am unsure if I should tell her the whole truth, or if I should just leave it with that I no longer want to be jewish.
TL;DR: A friend from 20 years ago made a joke about me being a Jew since I moved there from California. This turned into everyone in my life thinking I’m jewish, causing me to meet a jewish girl, get a free trip to Israel, getting to go to my dream school, everything, but it’s all built on a lie and I feel horrible about it every single day. Telling my wife tomorrow that I’m not jewish, but am still unsure if I should tell her everything.
EDIT: Just for clarification, because people have been questioning my use of the word “university” in place for “college”. Yes I know they’re not the same thing, I’ve just been surrounded by British people lately and they all use “university” so I’ve been saying that instead of college. It’s a recently adopted habit and I can assure you I’m American. Born in Folsom California, moving to Orange County and then to Santa Clarita, California where I lived for most of my younger life until my family moved to Americus, Georgia. I can assure you I’m definitely American. And as for my wife not finding out from my side of the family, it’s mainly due to the fact that we don’t talk to my side of the family for personal reasons and I haven’t talked to them in years, and she’s only ever met them once at the wedding, but she also wants nothing to do with them. I’ve decided I’m just going to tell her I’m not jewish. I won’t tell her I’ve lied about being Jewish for all these years, but I’m just going to tell her that I’m not jewish. Someone also said that since bother sides of my family are Czech, there’s a good chance I’m Jewish, so I’m thinking of doing a DNA test soon. Also when I said, “I know nothing about Judaism” that was an extreme exaggeration. I’ve obviously picked up a lot of knowledge over the years and I think my wife may have an idea due to the fact, whenever a Jewish holiday is coming up, she’ll remind me about it and tell me when it is/ what it’s for if I don’t already know. I’ll update later tonight on how it goes!
EDIT 2: So I talked to her and I decided to just tell her everything.... and it didn’t go like I expected. She told me she had a feeling I wasn’t jewish from the beginning but never married me just because I was jewish, but married me for me, regardless of my faith. She said that she was sorry that I felt like I had to hide this from her for so many years and that I don’t have to pretend to be jewish if I don’t want to, but like a lot of people have commented, I do feel sort of culturally jewish now. I definitely identify more as a member of the Jewish community than I do any others. We’re not going to pressure any of our kids into Judaism and we’re going to let them decide what they want to do for themselves... and my wife and I agreed that it’d be for the best if we gave back since all the opportunities afforded to me came from the Jewish community, we’re going to get involved with an organization and we’re donating to 3 different scholarships for $5,000 each, and try and help fund birthright trips whenever we can. I’d like to thank everyone who’s commented with advice and hopefully this can be a new chapter in my life!

2020.12.05 03:42 IdiotsLantern What your MTG Waifu/Husbando says about you both (crosspost)

Ok, this thoroughly cursed content was written on my phone at 1am and posted against my better judgement to mtgvorthos . Now being posted here on u/RollTheDice0 advice. I regret all my life decisions and am deeply ashamed of myself.
—-
Jace - your first date is putting together a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Always asks if you want to try this new escape room. Will 100% ruin your escape room experience.
Chandra - your first date is laser tag, motocross track, and breaking and entering, not necessarily in that order. Dares you to order the spiciest thing on the menu. Drinks Red Bull by the case. Getting to bed by 4am is an "early night."
Nissa - your first date is getting up at 3am for a sunrise hike in the woods ending with a picnic you are too tired to eat. Have ended friendships over the fervent belief that anyone who would shoot a wolf should be fed to one. Wholesome bean but try not to talk politics.
Gideon - your first date is surprise tickets to that concert you’ve been so excited about! And dinner before at your favorite eatery! Fantastic! At dinner, he sees six of his friends! Lets say hi! Oh they're going to the concert too! We should all hang out together! They have a great time.
Liliana - your first date can only be at the most expensive restaurant in town. It's nice if you pay. It's better if you dump a dead cockroach on your plate and insist you're NOT paying! Only suckers pay their bills. You have a horrible credit rating.
Sarkan Vol - You think civilization has really been declining since the days of the vikings and Romans, back when men swung weapons and grunted a lot. You think the gym is an acceptable place to meet singles. You bond over mutual hatred of the ending of Game of Thrones. He thinks your dragon t-shirt looks neat.
Ral Zarek - you are a part of the Maker movement and have set your own house on fire at least once. You're also out of luck - he's taken and monogamous. But maybe you have a thing for unavailable men, who knows.
Taimyo- your ideal date involves sitting and reading quietly for several hours.
Garruk - Your idea of fun involves finding something small and helpless and killing it. You are on the Paleo diet. You think soap is bad for your skin because it's "unnatural."
Teferi - time itself slows down to get a better look at the Coolest Cat in the multiverse. you’re only human. It’s ok.
Narset - nights out mean zen gardens. Nights in mean guided meditation. Has a kung-fu competition next month so she doesn't have much time for socializing, but if you'd like to join her book club, she might not object.
Ajani - it took you years to understand WHY you felt a certain way about the cast of Disney’s “Robin Hood.” Then you saw Zootopia and you finally got it.
Queen Marchesa - you just want a hot evil lady to use you as a footstool and that's ok.
Teysa Karlov - you are a firm believer in the eroticism of a properly balanced check book.
Kari Zev - How do you feel about windsurfing and exotic animal husbandry?
Hanna - How do you feel about road trips and Daddy issues?
Thalia - will take you to church, not in the Hozier way.
Arlinn Kord - You're a doomsday prepper and also a dedicated fan of the Beastar manga.
Vraska - you liked the Pirates of the Carribean sequels and never miss a chance to talk about the coming people’s revolution!
Nahiri - You believe there is no more magnetic force in the multiverse then a woman who is just 10000% FED UP.
Sorin - you like anime wall scrolls and own a Katana. Also there was a time when you wore black trench coats almost exclusively.
Nicol Bolas - treat me badly, daddy

Delivery Wed 12/3 - 75xxx - skål to Odin!
Hi everyone! Been watching all the lucky new owners pick up their MY over the past few months. My day came on Wed this week and thought I'd share my experience. Meet Odin.
https://i.imgur.com/Pv2CgGQ.png
3 days in and absolutely love this car. My previous was a Jeep Grand Cherokee and this is my first EV. It feels extremely luxurious to me - driving is smooth, feels solid, low noise. Amazing piece of tech this thing is. Admittedly I spent too long with my 13 year old daughter making fart noises.
Details:
  • VIN: 75xxx, Manf date: 11/11/2020
  • Delivery location: Dedham, MA
  • Model Y, LR, MSM, white interior, Induction, no FSD
  • YES Laminated windows
  • YES Dimming side mirrors
  • NO usb in glovebox
  • NO fancy metal knobs in steering wheel
Pics (all exterior - nothing unique to show in the inside) https://imgur.com/a/CFtNYMg

Initial impressions after walking in the door

Everyone was really friendly, but wanted to speed the process. There was zero touchless delivery happening. Cars were right next to the other, people milling around, etc. My delivery advisor (actually was a few people) spoke really fast like I've done it 100 times and wanted to get me in the car and out. I said to him that I'm going to take a while. :) All in all, they were pretty patient with me though.

The examination begins

I spent 75% of my time staring at the exterior of the car, walking through the delivery checklist, since I've heard so many stories of trainwreck deliveries. I used this gui version of the checklist from ladinu - can be found here https://zelos.dev/
The overall condition was pretty good - I was first looking for glaring gaps and severe misalignments. I didn't see anything major, so I got more granular and found several areas that I didn't like. Mostly related to where the front and passenger door align with the bottom molding and where the wheel well molding meets with the side/bottom molding. That was probably confusing to read, so here's some pics with commentary on what I found: https://imgur.com/a/CFtNYMg
The biggest glaring issue was a giant white smudge on the grey molding around the front right wheel well. It was huge and obvious and the first thing I noticed. I mentioned it right away and the delivery advisor wiped it with a cloth and immediately declared it fixed. Uhm nope it was still there. They replaced that whole molding section. (see the pics for more on that)
Everything else you see in the imgur album was declared "within spec" and "normal".

Overall

Besides the giant white smudge on the molding (which I have no farking clue how it made it through QA), the car was in pretty decent shape outside of being fairly filthy outside from sitting in the rain for two days prior. The wheels were dirty. Inside was oddly dusty too in some sections. As I was pointing out the issues and as they brought them to service to get checked out they were concerned I was going to refuse delivery. If I'm spending this amount on a car, I want perfection on delivery.
This part was weird and surprising. The day after, as I'm driving into the sun, I noticed that the windshield looked like it was sandblasted - marks everywhere that were like something I'd see on a windshield after about a year. This is the one thing that bothers the most and I have a service appt already scheduled later in Dec. Pics in the imgur.
TL;DR
  • Overall good experience but they wanted me in the car and out of the lot
  • Some molding alignment issues, but barely any panel alignment issues
  • I still don't think they do a good job QA'ing
  • Pics and brief commentary here: https://imgur.com/a/CFtNYMg

2020.12.05 01:30 tomahtoed Aulani w/ Kids (2016 vs Nov 2020)

I stayed in a 2BR DVC unit the week before Thanksgiving w/ my two tweens. We had been there in 2016 so I have some comparisons w/ a focus on how different it was/is for kids. During Covid we were there over two weekends in NOV 2020 (pre-Thanksgiving). My kids are now older so they didn't really 'miss' anything, and had to do online school during the week anyhow.
This is not a complaint as we were just happy to be there. The Aulani website has up-to-date info about what is open/closed so you should check that and not be surprised. https://www.disneyaulani.com/about-aulani/important-updates/
Overall the 'magic' of Disney was missing. No characters walking around (designated times when they were on a stage on the Luau side of the resort), no aunty/uncle hosts (tho Uncle did come out w/ his Uke at the main pool in our last afternoon), no Auntie's Beach House childcare, no Teen activities, no Community center crafts/activities (aside from 'make a $50 mouse ears thing'), no AmaAma (nicer) restaurant, no Buffet dinner. The high-end gift shop seemed to be open just a few times while the other one was always opened. There as beach-side food/bev service (and at pool as well). They did have live music each night, outside the Olelo/Makahiki restaurant and we checked out some DVD movies. On both weekends, it was pretty apparent that local families were filling up the place, where you did have to be strategic about securing your pool chair. They had fewer chairs out but they would be ALL occupied so it felt full. I was happy sitting on the quiet-er beach Lagoon 1 so this was not stressful, while kids did the slides/lazy river (no masks). The Four Seasons was closed and the 'public' are restricted to the Lagoon 4 (tho no one is policing). People seemed to wear masks coming out of their room and to the pool area but as soon as they were in 'pool' mode the typically removed masks.. maybe putting them back on only if they were heading back to rooms or getting more towels.
Enjoy your stay if you go and please be polite/patient to the people who work there. It's pretty devastating to think about the tourism industry in Hawaii now. Is it worth it to take kids there? If you are getting a pretty great rate/airfare then sure. But if not, it's probably worth waiting.

2020.12.05 00:06 mrniceguy78 42 [M4F] Ma - Yes, That is a wheelchair that I'm wearing.

But it's black, so it goes with everything.

Trying again. I would love to be going out with friends on a this nice Friday night but, well, you know. So maybe mingling here will spark something?
If any of this post looks familiar it's because I’m recycling from several old posts of mine. I've had varying degrees of success here but nothing that has lasted. I've even gotten some really great introductions from people that I've been very interested in that just fizzle out and I don't know why. Let's try not to do that. Deal? And on that note, don't be offended if I ask to voice or video verify. In fact, it's kind of a complement because it usually means that I think you’re too good to be true. Plus, I like voice chatting, I'm funnier and more charming live. ;)

How do we describe ourselves objectively? I'm smart, funny, have a good job, have my own vehicle/place and I'm a genuinely decent human being. I wouldn't say that I'm a big deal, but I am at least a medium deal. Then there’s the disability thing. It’s obviously a significant part of my life but it certainly doesn’t define me (Although, it does make me easy to pick out in a crowd and I frequently tell people to just “look for the guy in a wheelchair” so maybe it does define me a little bit). I do regular stuff like anyone else, I just do it differently. And swear more, I reckon. And laugh more. You’ll probably laugh, too and that’s okay.

What am I looking for? I need a sense of humor. I tend to gravitate toward sweethearts and I find intelligence to be sexy. I don't have a physical type, except I'm more attracted to thin or athletic body types but everything is negotiable. I don't have any kids and I'm not looking to have any, I'm a kickass uncle though. I've dated women both older and younger than myself and age gaps don't bother me at all. I can handle crazy but not, like, stab me crazy. I'm open to a lot of things but I'm definitely looking for something more than just platonic friendship or a chat buddy, I already have friends and I don't want to make out with any of them. Also, I'd really like someone at least in the same country or on the same continent. I've met some wonderful people and still talk to some great ones from around the world but multiple time zones and the low likelihood of ever actually being able to meet are just real potential killers. I want potential, not theoretical. I'm pretty tied to my city because of my career but it's a truly wonderful place to live if you can handle Winter.

You’re probably tired of reading so here’s some pictures:

I've been told I'm better looking in person.
And to show that I'm funny, a list of perks of dating me:
  1. Rock star parking! Seriously, this is a big one.

  1. I give wheelchair rides. I'm quite comfy and walking is overrated.

  1. People let me cut in lines. I'm not sure why they do but it beats sitting outside in the cold.

  1. Playing the "Cripple Card" is the best excuse for getting out of shit you don't want to do. Who's going to argue that I don't feel well? This superpower also applies to my +1.

  1. People give me free shit. Again, I don't quite get their reasoning but you'll be covered under this policy as well. Free shit is good.

  1. I'm the best comedy fodder ever. Ever been out with a drunk, crippled guy that makes up stories about how he got hurt? No? I highly recommend it.

  1. I'm like having a built-in lawn chair. Everywhere we go, you'll have a place to sit. Think about it.

  1. I use a power chair. Do you have any idea how much this thing can carry? Think shopping bags, picnic supplies, survival gear?

  1. I'm really difficult to kidnap. Think this is just a perk for me? Think again, I can say with 99.99% certainty that you will NEVER have to pay a ransom. Bail, on the other hand, I'm only at 39.75% certainty. Still, those odds aren't bad.

  1. In the event of a zombie apocalypse or bear attack, I'm easy to outrun. (I can't promise that I won't later eat your brains, but that's the risk you take when dating a pre-zombie.)

  1. I'm really difficult to kidnap. Think this is just a perk for me? Think again, I can say with 99.99% certainty that you will NEVER have to pay a ransom. Bail, on the other hand, I'm only at 39.75% certainty. Still, those odds aren't bad.

Plus, I like voice chatting, I'm funnier and more charming live. ;)

2020.12.04 23:52 bigbear0083 Wall Street Week Ahead for the trading week beginning December 7th, 2020

Good Friday evening to all of you here on StockMarket. I hope everyone on this sub made out pretty nicely in the market this past week, and is ready for the new trading week ahead.
Here is everything you need to know to get you ready for the trading week beginning December 7th, 2020.

Any progress on stimulus could give the market a boost in the week ahead - (Source)

Stimulus to help the economy and vaccines to stop the virus are expected to the be the main focus in markets in the week ahead.
Efforts to move along a fiscal package in Congress picked up momentum in the past week with Congressional leaders sounding conciliatory, and a bi-partisan group of senators pushing their own $900 billion proposal.
“It probably boils down to how much [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell is willing to deal, and I don’t know what the answer is to that,” said Mike Schumacher, head of rate strategy at Wells Fargo. “If it’s going to happen, next week is the week. The government runs out of money on Friday. Congress has to come up with a funding scheme.”
Strategists have said the two events could be tied, but Congress could also push through a spending resolution without including stimulus. Some programs will expire at the end of the month, if Congress does not provide funding, including unemployment benefits for millions of Americans.
The on again, off again stimulus talks have led to skepticism in the market, and sets it up for a move higher if there is anything officially announced. “I wouldn’t think it’s fully baked in. I would say the stimulus is a positive catalyst, unless it’s less than $900 billion,” said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at National Securities.
While stocks surged in the past week, bond yields also moved higher. Yields move opposite price, and bond yields have been rising on stimulus expectations. More spending means more debt, and that sends rates higher.
The 10-year was at 0.97% Friday, and appeared ready to move back to the 1% level for the first time since March.
“Is it the case here, stimulus is already factored in, and will people take their money and run?” said Schumacher.
The S&P 500 gained 1.7% in the past week, ending Friday at 3,699, a record high. The Dow also ended up 1% at a record 30,218, and Nasdaq gained 2.1% to a record 12,464.

Getting jabbed

Vaccine news has been a catalyst for the market’s surge since early November, when Pfizer first revealed the high efficacy of its vaccine. Since then Moderna and Astra-Zeneca both revealed results of their own vaccines.
A Food and Drug Administration advisory committee meets Thursday on emergency use authorization for the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine.
“They’re starting to roll it out in the U.K, and that’s something that’s going to be watched here to see how it unfolds,” said Quincy Krosby, chief market strategist Prudential Financial. “That’s the next issue for the market. The deliveries, the distributions. Are people being jabbed? These are all questions the market is concerned about about because they’re looking forward to it unrolling smoothly in the U.S.”
About 3 million people will be vaccinated in the initial rollout. Moderna’s vaccine is expected to be approved the following week, and by year-end both vaccines are expected to reach 20 million people in the U.S.
“The vaccine news has started to see a bit of diminishing return in terms of its wow factor,” said Hogan. “There’s going to be some volatility around the logistics.”
Krosby said the virus remains in the forefront for the market because of the continuing spread and its economic impact as activities are shut down. California Thursday announced new restrictions with stay at home advisories in some regions.
“The big question is how long does the Covid surge last?” Krosby said.
The virus shutdowns appear to be behind a slowdown in the labor market, and economists say it could slow activity into the first quarter. November job growth of 245,000 was about 200,000 less than expected. That makes Thursday’s weekly jobless claims more important for markets.
There is also CPI and PPI inflation data Thursday and Friday.
“There is this push pull in the market regarding inflationary pressures,” said Krosby. “It’s not expected, which is why if it does print higher, it could ignite the conversation regarding inflation.”

Stocks and Bonds Both in Rally Mode

When it comes to equity market performance in a given month, it doesn't get much better than November. While the S&P 500's total return of 10.95% in the month was only the second-best monthly performance of the year, it was still enough to rank as the third-best month for the S&P 500 in the last thirty years and just the ninth month since 1980 that it was up 10%+.
The chart below shows the S&P 500's annualized total return over the last one, two, five, ten, and twenty years and compares the current returns to the historical average. For the last year, the S&P 500's total return has been 17.5% which is nearly six full percentage points higher than the historical average. For the last two years, the annualized return has been nearly as strong at 16.8%, and it is actually even stronger relative to the historical average of 10.5%. Moving further out the time horizon, the S&P 500's annualized returns drift lower, and while the five and ten-year annualized returns are greater than average, the S&P 500's annualized gain of 7.3% in the last 20 years is more than 3.5 percentage points below the historical average of 10.9%.
The last couple of years haven't just been strong for equities. Over the last year, long-term US Treasuries, as measured by the Merrill Lynch 10+ Year US Treasury Index, have rallied 15.7%, which is more than six full percentage points greater than the historical average of 9.5%. Over the last two years, returns have been even stronger with an annualized gain of nearly 20%, or more than double the historical average of 9.1%! While the last two years have been strong for US Treasuries, the last five, ten, and twenty years have all seen returns of between one and two percentage points below their historical average.
Lately, when you see rallies in the equity market, it tends to be accompanied by a decline in treasuries as yields rise. In November, though, that wasn't the case. Even with the S&P 500 up 10.95%, long-term US Treasuries rallied just over 1%. So how uncommon is it for stocks to rally like they did in November while bonds also rally. Actually, it is not very uncommon at all. The table below shows the nine months since 1980 where the S&P 500's total return in a given month was 10% or more, and of those months, long-term treasuies also rallied in every month but one (October 2011).

Manufacturer Recovery Continues

This morning, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) released a less positive outlook for the US manufacturing sector. The headline number for ISM's Manufacturing index fell from 59.3 last month down to 57.5. A drop was expected, but the actual results were worse than the drop to 58.0 that had been forecasted. That reading indicates that the manufacturing sector continued to grow in November but at a slower rate than October.
Similar to the various Federal Reserve bank surveys from around the country, breadth in the November report was more negative than in recent months. Of the ten indices excluding the headline number, only three were higher in November: Backlog Orders, Supplier Deliveries, and Export Orders. Additionally, two indices—Customer Inventories and Employment—showed contractionary readings.
One theme of the report was that orders remain very healthy. New Orders fell from 67.9 to 65.1, but that is a sixth consecutive month of expansionary readings. Although the index was lower this month, meaning new order growth decelerated, it remains in the top decile of historical readings. As new orders have continued to grow, so too have backlogs. The index for Backlog Orders has continued to press higher, rising to 56.9 from 55.7. That is in the 88th percentile of all months and is now at the highest level since August of 2018. Demand continues to improve with new orders coming in at a historically strong pace, even though it is slower than last month, and order backlogs have once again risen as a result.
As new order growth decelerated, so too did production. The index fell from 63.0 in October to 60.8 last month. That is still consistent with growth (readings above 50) in production but at the slowest rate since June. One factor that potentially had an impact on the slowdown in production is issues with suppliers. The index for Supplier Deliveries rose for the fourth month in a row in November and reached the highest level since May. Higher readings in the Supplier Deliveries index indicates longer lead times and vice versa. In other words, products from suppliers have been taking longer to reach manufacturers, in turn, impacting productivity.
Although suppliers appear to have some constraints and production has slowed slightly, business inventories rose for the second month in a row even as more and more firms report that customer inventories are too low. The index for Customer Inventories now sits in the bottom 2% of historical readings after dropping another 0.4 points in November. At 36.3, the index is at the lowest level since June of 2010. That low reading can be considered positive for future production.

Big Gains In November Steal From Santa

What a month November was! Here are some of the highlights:
  • Best month for Dow since January 1987 (11.9%) and best November since 1928
  • Best month ever for the STOXX 600 (16.7%)
  • Best month ever for the Russell 2000 (18.3%)
  • Best month for the S&P 500 (10.8%) and Nasdaq (11.8%) since April 2020
  • Best month for Dow Transports since October 2011 (12.1%)
  • Best month from PHLX Semiconductor Index since March 2003 (18.4%)
  • Best month for Industrials (16.0%) and Financials (16.8%) since April 2009
  • Second best month ever for energy (28.0%)
A way better than expected earnings season, a likely split Congress, and major breakthroughs on the vaccine front all helped stocks soar last month,” explained LPL Financial Chief Market Strategist Ryan Detrick. “Add ongoing support from the Federal Reserve as the cherry on top and we are looking at a truly historic month on many levels.”
Here’s all the Dow monthly returns since 1900. Last month was the best return since January 1987. Now before you go out and sell because you see 1987, remember the S&P 500 added another 20% the seven months after the huge gains in early 1987.
It was the best November for the S&P 500 since November 1928.
Small caps soared on the likelihood of taxes staying lower due to a divided Congress and vaccine progress, with the Russell 2000 adding more than 18% for the best month ever, topping the previous record from February 2000.
What happens after a big month? Well, history says a 10% monthly gain is quite bullish. In fact, we had a 10% plus rally back in April 2020 and shared this same chart at that time. Sure enough, returns have been strong this time around as well. “The bottom line is the huge gains in November could actually be the start of something much stronger,” according to Ryan Detrick. “Also, this was the second month of 2020 with a 10% gain. The only other year to do that? 1982, which kicked off a historic bull market.”
Turning to December, this month is widely known to be quite bullish, as Santa comes to town, people feel good, and stocks tend to do well. As shown in the LPL Chart of the Day, since 1950, December has been the second best month of the year, with only November better. December had been the best month of the year until the historic 9.2% drop in 2018. As a result, December hasn’t been quite as strong over the past 10 and 20 years.
Breaking it down even more, a big rally in November can potentially steal some of December’s thunder. As after a 5% or 10% rally in November, the returns in December are more muted. The flipside to this though is if the S&P 500 is up more than 10% for the year (like 2020), then stocks have benefited from some performance chasing and have tended to do better.
What does it all mean? After the historic move in November we wouldn’t be surprised to see below average returns in December. We do believe this is a new bull market and lasting economic cycle of growth, but overall sentiment is getting quite stretched and this increases the potential for some near-term weakness. Please read COVID-19 May Threaten The Economic Recovey for more of our near-term thoughts.

Prof Messer I used his entire video series, take tens, study group questions, and his course notes. Thank you so much professormesser!!!!!
Gibson GCGA I never actually read cover to cover as I didnt start using his book untill after I had gotten very close to my test date. I did use it extensively when I did my "review mode".
Gibson's Sec+ App Pretty good for taking exam questions/flashcards but I did notice I was remembering a lot of answers.
Jason Dion I watched a view of his course videos for free with O'Reilly.com but didnt use them that much. I did all 6 of his exams in the last 30 days or so my scores were 81/81/73/84/78/87 His exams were very similar but I also felt they included some questions that did not appear on the exam objectives(or test for that matter) so don't get discouraged by missing a question for not knowing what "risk appetite" is.
How I Passed Watched every Messer video, took notes, I didnt really use those notes too much but I think writing down stuff helps to retain it. Physically printed out Objectives list and made very small notes on each term so that only the MOST important aspect was on it. This is where I used Gibson's book the most, Gibson is so through on each objective that I was able to summarize it a few key points. Before I finished with every video/objective I was taking practice quizzes from sites like examcompass.org and other free resources, they aren't the best but still help to retain things. Once I was finally done with my studying I started taking Dion test and extensively reviewing why I was right or wrong.
The Exam I got 5 PBQ's lmao so that wasn't cool. There was many questions that I knew within moments and others that make you sit there and question everything you have learned. Overall I felt very confident that I was going to pass. I got a 792/900

Kl’atic Station News
Date: 03.9 28 P4E, 10:23 Terran Standard
Complaints and requests for reimbursement with relation to the Terran sonic attack on Kl’atic that took place two days ago continue to pour in to the Judiciary from virtually all species on the station. The only noticeable exception is the Greling. When queried, a Greling representative said “I don’t know why you are so upset about this. It’s rather catchy.” Before mimicking the noises the Terrans had used, though at level not conducive to causing pain. Much to this reporter’s relief!
The Burghasts appear to be in an odd situation, as Terrans have positioned themselves outside of their embassy suites. Armed, these Terrans have done little more than watch, and seem to be emitting the same sonic tones as during the attack, though at a level that isn’t painful. This is theorised that this is a warning to others as they enter the embassy. Though a Greiling was witnessed speaking with these Terrans who at one point in the conversation broke out in spontaneous discoordinated movement for several moments before the Greiling citizen wandered off laughing.
This reporter has learned that no Burghasts official has left the embassy since the Terrans have appeared. And have been paying an exuberant amount for food to be delivered to their embassy while the Terrans have watched.
More questions than answers have arisen with regards to the Terrans. However, an all important one has also risen with regards to the Burghasts: How can they be the Terran Benefactors if they appear to be afraid of them?
This article has had the following appended:
The Species Oversight Board has released the following statement in relation to these events:
“These events bring into question the policies and procedures the Burghasts have exhibited in relation to their Benefactor Species status. At no other point in the Empire history has a subjugated species attacked such a wide spectrum of the Empire after their Benefactor has been determined. This has spawned an inquiry into the Burghasts handling of their four Subjugated species. Delegations to the sixteen worlds containing the Avarian, Vendrical, and Uurdin species are already underway to ensure that proper protocols are in place. Inquiries regarding the Terran worlds have officially been filed, delegations ready for examination as soon as the Burghasts provided the required information.”

Subject: Terran trade model
Date: 03.15 28 P4E, 10:23 Terran Standard
We have fed the information we have on the Terrans through our predictive algorithm, taking into account this no-upfront-cost trade model Grazil has outlined, which goes against all known interspecies history. Our algorithms have predicted that the increased likelihood of one party taking action on another's behalf is itself the currency that these interactions. Not only does the probability increase that a species conforming to this matrix will take positive action for the others behalf with the greater amount of currency held, but that they would dedicate greater amounts of resources to such an action.
With this information we ran our predictive models on the recent Terran interactions and have concluded the following:
  1. The trade agreement we received for the manufacturing process of the new type of armor, which was decidedly one sided, was a form of this interaction. The Terrans saw a need and filled it without asking for anything meaningful in return.
  2. With the acknowledgment of this currency is the acceptance that actions can retract from your wealth. By not providing the communication information to the Terrans prior to the attack, we have created a negative based transaction in this currency.
    1. The probability machines indicate a 37.2% probability that this transaction could be somewhat negated by claims of ignorance of this trading model. The engines show a 47.3% margin for error.
  3. Running the scenario where the information on the Burghasts attack was provided to the Terrans prior to the attack on their embassy our predictive algorithms show an 82.7% probability that future dealings with the Terrans would be skewed towards our advantage with only a 21.3% margin for error. And a 33.1% increased chance that the Terrans would intervene on our behalf should they be put in a position to do so.
These calculations have spawned the creation of the Terran Economic Division, which will study this type of transaction to better understand these transactions so that we are approaching the Terrans appropriately in the future. I suggest a group within the Cultural Division be created to examine the outcome of a situation where both sides of this type of transactions are saturated to the point where probability of both acting for the others best interest reach 100%, while the likelihood of them acting against the other approaches zero.
Which brings us back to the immediate situation of the Terrans. With the knowledge of this currency and the Terran willingness to trade in it we must admit that currently our account is strongly in the negative.

Date: 03.14 28 P4E, 10:23 Terran Standard
Location: Clypeus system, Primis Station
I have wondered lately if I was doing a disservice by keeping our Gulf-Speed Graviton Drive operational. It would take months to reach Clypeus without it. But as Admiral McCalister looked disapprovingly at Oliver who was sitting beside me as I stood in his office on board the Primis, I couldn’t help but think it would be a good thing. The only reason we still had it was the inventor's rights we held. Which is to say that since Jeff invented it, they acknowledge that he could simply reconfigure the drive if they forced us to remove it so they didn’t bother.
Every other ship on this side of the Gulf had those modifications removed.
“We need to know where and when you acquired this information. And if you can do it again.” He stated jabbing his console with each word. I merely shrugged, my environment suit flexing as though it was a second skin.
“It was provided to me after the attack by the Hudrozaplic ambassador.” I said. “I am sure she could provide us more information if we could find something to trade her that would be worth the knowledge.”
“Could you arrange for such negotiations?” He asked.
“Are you asking me to join the diplomatic corps? Because if you are, I refuse.” I said, Oliver barked and I shushed him.
“No one is talking to us anymore.” McCalister said leaning back. “We were never popular before but others would talk to us. Now even the Hudrozaplic diplomate refuses all official meeting requests.” Me looked at me. “I want to know why. We need to know why.”
“Probably because the Empire’s declared the Burghasts as our Benefactors.”
“Why would that…. Oh.” He said, anger causing his face to flush.
“Yeah. You don’t talk to the slave, you talk to the master.” I said shrugging. “You might want to go the unofficial route. Get back-room meetings and deals going. Grazil at least might be open to that.” McCalister examined me.
“We don’t currently have a way to initiate such a thing easily. Do you?”
“Maybe, maybe not. But, you don’t want me to be the contact to other races. I’m a loose canon and my decisions are suspect and warrant an inquiry.” I said, wanted to get out of this meeting so I could check on the repairs of Scorpio. We were waiting for replacement point defense systems to be assembled. We were having difficulty getting our hands on the patterns for the guns so we hadn’t replaced the materials used yet. So we were putting the same vulnerable systems in place.
“The outcome of that really depends on this conversation.” There were only a handful of personalities when it came to Navy personnel and my militia status. The ones who didn’t care, and treated me as my ‘rank’ dictated. Those who put me in a second class position because of it. And finally those who knew that it was a mechanism for the Navy to get what it wanted from me legally, and that it would be hard for me to care less about it. Admiral McCalister was solidly in the third category, though he threw the second in on occasion depending on how much I had pissed him off lately. For him to throw this particular bone out there meant I had more or less been right in my earlier assessment about him wanting me to join the diplomatic corps.
“So, am I now a black diplomat? Spy-o-mat? I really don’t know what your naming system is for these things.” I asked, shaking my head. I can’t say I’m surprised. I was forced into the militia because they needed my ship to expedite their efforts in the galactic core. Now that the need was over, they didn’t have the same need for me.
But why throw something out that can be recycled?
“If you’re amenable, I’m going to recommend that you and your crew be kicked out of the militia. Officially this will be a punishment. But it will allow you to concentrate on working those backroom channels so to speak, with the effort to alleviate Terran-Alien relations. Considering that Ambassador Jason is requesting to testify against you at your review, I will make Ashley your primary contact on our side. Any goods, or actions, that the Confederacy is to be committed to through your interactions will go through her, and need her approval before we commit to anything.”
I thought about it. “I need some assurances, and agreements, in place before I agree to that. My crew and I won’t put ourselves in a position that we can ‘disappear’ so to speak.”
“What would you need?” He asked.
So I told him.

Sol-Protectorate News, Military Page
Date: 03.25 28 P4E
In a surprising announcement Confederacy Military Command has released unspecified charges against Captain Jessica Vanderlyn of the Independent Ship Scorpio. You read that right. A captain of the Confederacy Navy has been confirmed to have been piloting an Independent classified ship. When asked for comment we were given this:
“Captain Vanderlyn was commissioned under the militia concept held by the Confederacy since before the First Expansion. Her commission was a trial. One that ultimately failed and has now been disbanded. The IS Scorpio belongs to her, and has since prior to her enlistment, as such it could not be listed as a military vessel as would otherwise be appropriate. During her enlistment, she has not approached any human controlled system not in Confederacy control.”
Gate records show that the IS Scorpio, a scorpion class vessel, was recommissioned almost four years ago and was then issued a salvaging license under the control of Jessica Vanderlyn. It then took a gate jump to the border system of Barista where it has apparently stayed since then. However, in the past two years, it’s transponder has not been recorded in the system outside of brief periods of time near the original military station of the system.
Despite this, no Gate jumps are recorded for the IS Scorpio meaning that though it’s not on any station’s scopes now it is still in the system. Interestingly, the Scorpio shows up only one other place in official records: The Military List of Weapon Embargo Exempt ships. Which it had been added the same day as the announcement of Captain Jessica Vanderlyn’s summary dismissal from the military ranks. Allowing the Scorpio to travel anywhere within the Confederacy armed with military grade weaponry.
Adding yet another layer of intrigue to the system of Barista, recent scans indicate that the system is emanating a power signature that is unprecedented. Experts at SPN have concluded that these levels would only be achievable if every military base believed to be in Barista where running at full power.
This is SPN, reporting.

Everything was done. The rank of me and my crew have been removed. The emblems on our dusters were replaced by an equivalent symbol that had been torn in half. A modification suggested by Haley that the crew seemed to jump on. Emily was officially added to our crew. She was Grayson's primary aide, so it was decided that she would be performing similar duties for me.
She still held her rank. I don’t know how the Navy justified her presence on what is becoming a ‘black ops’ ship.
We had been given a ridiculously high clearance level, and my team now had access to every pattern we could ask for. Admiral McCalister was furious when he inquired about the armor Scorpio was wearing and the environmental suite I had on. When he learned that these had all been submitted through normal means to the military he didn’t believe me. Until he was shown the video recording of Brian and Jack confronting taking hits with Jack not receiving more then some first degree burns that were easily treatable.
Then he exploded. Apparently they have been having a hell of a time coming up with something that didn’t melt when alien weaponry hit it.
The Core-Side R&D division was now hard at work analysing my reports and working with Gregory adapting the point-defence mounted weaponry to utilize crystalized durasteel. In a somewhat surprising act of creativity they began reconfiguring troop weapons with the dritanium alloy so they wouldn’t melt if hit by an alien’s weapon. The Crew was quick to replace the ships armory with the new models, though they were lighter and tended to kick more.
Doctor Elizabeth Green was assigned to be my oversight of sorts. Anything we come up with I need to file with her in addition to the normal channels. Admiral McCalister stated: “This force needs to adapt to the world we are in, not the one we left behind. The only ones with the luxury to ignore this fact are those we left in the spiral-arm.”
I don’t like Admiral McCalister. But I’ve had to admit that I respect him, if only to myself.
Fuel cores are one of the roadblocks. We can’t simply print more. The energy involved with the printing process would inadvertently push the fuel rod into an uncontrolled burn resulting in a very large fusion firework show. A priority activity is scanning down each of the systems we held to find the element needed for their production. Until we could produce them locally every ship was acutely aware of the state of their fusion engines.
This need to conserve fuel is one of the major reasons that the fleet of ships isn’t being refit with my crystalized durasteel even now. THough, I understand the Eighth Fleet isn’t hindered by this problem.
Currently Scorpio is being given priority treatment, due to our unique mission. I don’t expect that to last. As soon as they could establish real relationships with the species of the Empire, my role will diminish to obscurity. For now though, I’ve had my fuel canisters refilled. Two rods for each engine, not including what I have burning now.
The situation gave me an idea about how to get the ball rolling with Grazil. I suppose I should make a call.

This was an interesting one. On the one hand, this is a TOTAL jerk move. There's little if any chance of any relationship to survive when (in this case) the person's spent three YEARS pretending to be deaf. On the other hand, if it were, say, a romantic comedy or on Hallmark, I'm sure there'd be some way around it. Either way, a big thank you to everyone that gave my little story awards and updoots!

Original WP: For most of college everyone thought you were deaf when in reality you just don't like talking and learned sign language at a young age. You never corrected anyone until someone confessed their love for you, thinking you couldn't hear them. Original link: https://www.reddit.com/WritingPrompts/comments/k4pu1z/wp_for_most_of_college_everyone_thought_you_were/
My story:
The voice was strong, obnoxious and more than a little condescending. “He’s deaf.”
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that said. Ignoring it entirely, I sipped at my drink as I continued flipping through Netflix on my tablet. I’d just finished one anime series and was looking for another because no one ever questioned using captions when you’re deaf.
Of course, I wasn’t deaf. My mom would flip out if she knew I was faking it, what, three years now? But I sure as heck wasn’t going to tell her. Growing up with two deaf parents when I wasn’t deaf at all, I was used to being in my own world, and college had only reinforced this concept.
My thoughts were scattered when a hand flashed in front of the screen before me. I looked up as Jake arrived with two plates of pizza. He looked me directly in the face as he slowly said, “Hey, man. Brought you some pizza.”
I smiled, pulling up the app on the tablet where I did most of my “speaking.” I quickly typed, “Thanks, Jake. What do I owe you?” and slid it to him.
He shook his head. He made a crude gesture in ASL, though I knew what he was trying to say. ‘No worry about money.’ Don’t worry about it. I nodded at him and took back the tablet, pulling Netflix back up. I pointed at the anime I’d pulled up and made the question sign at him.
He glanced at the tablet. “Sword Art Online? Not familiar with it, but-“ He grimaced, slowing his speech down as he faced me directly again. “Sorry! Can’t read lips that fast, can you?”
I chuckled and typed “No worries, I got it.”
“Hey Jake, mind if I sit here?”
I froze, trying to not react to the words over my shoulder. I knew the voice. Oh, did I know it well. I heard it in my sleep.
Jake looked behind me and smiled widely. “No, not at all! You’re always welcome, Sarah!”
“Thanks!” Sarah touched me on the shoulder to get my attention, though I’d already started turning her way; reacting to those around me was second nature, and Jake had been blatantly obvious he wasn’t talking to me. She smiled at me as our eyes met, and she signed, ‘How are you?’
‘Great.’ I signed back once she had walked in front of me; signing over your back wasn’t practical. I could feel my heart in my chest as she sat down. Sarah was the one main reason I kept coming back to this college. We’d met on the very first day, and she went out of her way to help me find my way across campus.
It was also her fault that everyone around assumed I was deaf. When I’d been too stunned by the fact this absolutely drop-dead gorgeous woman was talking to me, she’d taken the initiative at the fact I hadn’t responded to her initial welcome and signed to me, ‘Hello.’ When I responded in kind out of habit, she started signing to me in a flurry of activity, and I suddenly was designated as the “deaf friend” she could practice her ASL on.
But that’s all I was to her. I was her deaf friend, there to help her get her ASL down to a second language. She wanted to be a teacher, and knowing sign language was going to help her a lot down the road. I didn’t see a problem helping her, of course – the more time I spent around her, the happier I was.
Sarah was going to make a fantastic teacher. She was kind, courteous, great with people and the absolute center of attention wherever she went. She was also WAY out of my league. I blinked, my concentration finally coming back to reality when I realized she was laughing.
“He really did zone out, didn’t he?” Jake was looking at Sarah, not me, so I had to be careful to not react to his words. “You do that to him a lot.”
“Do I?” Sarah looked strangely happy with this fact. She caught me watching her and blushed, turning away from me. “God, this is so hard!”
Hard? What was hard? Trying to keep my face from showing my emotions was sheer torture. And it also annoyed me that both of them were facing away from me while they talked; to a deaf person, you were effectively shutting them out of the conversation, and was quite rude. I was about to call them on it when Sarah spoke again.
“I… I don’t know if I’m ready.”
Ready?
Jake glanced at me before turning away again. “Sarah, you know he’s totally nuts over you. He’s a great guy, he bends over backwards to help out a ton of people – but you, he makes room for in his life, each and every time you walk in. You see how he lights up.”
“I know. I’m just nervous, ok?”
Nervous? About what? Keeping my face even was quickly becoming difficult, so I pulled the tablet to me and started idly flipping through Netflix again. I couldn’t tell you what any of the movies were – I was too focused on their conversation.
“Don’t be.” The kindness in Jake’s voice surprised me. It was like a big brother talking to his sister kind of moment. “Just tell him.”
“I’ve just… I’ve never told anyone before that I love them. And we’re not even dating!”
L… love?
I don’t know what the next couple of minutes of their conversation was about. My heart was pounding in my head, my chest felt like it would simply burst, and her words just kept ringing in my mind. Love. She… Sarah… loves me?
Finally, I felt her soft hands cover mine, and I looked up to see her staring at me, her eyes rimmed with moisture. I knew what she said before she mouthed the words. The next hour or so was a blur until we left the common area, hand in hand.
She… she loves me. Holy crap. Holy crap. Holy…
Oh hell.
It dawned on me then that someday I’m going to have to explain to her that I’m not deaf. This… was a problem. But with her hand firmly in mine and the happiest smile I’d ever seen on her face…
Today wasn’t the day to address that.

2020.12.04 18:57 BlairDaniels There's a woman I don't recognize in my wedding photos

I first saw her in the photo of me walking up the aisle.
The shot is from behind. The white train of my dress skims the ground. My blonde hair is rolled up in the silver barrette borrowed from his mom—my “something borrowed.” Every person in the pews is turned, watching me.
Except one.
A woman in the last row stands stick-straight, facing away from the camera. All I can see is the back of her head. Straight, long, black hair flowing down her shoulders and ending at her waist.
"Jeff? Who's that?"
Jeff leaned over my shoulder. "Huh, dunno. Maybe your cousin Jamie?"
"Could be, but her hair isn't that long." I clicked forward several photos. "No, can't be, see? Jamie was wearing a red dress. She's wearing black." I shook my head. "Must be someone from your side."
"She's sitting on your side, though."
"Huh. I guess you're right."
I clicked the zoom button. Her form filled the screen. Stick-straight black hair. Ivory skin. Almost impossibly skinny arms. She stood a good distance away from the five other people in the pew--my cousin Amanda, her husband, and her three rambunctious children. One of whom was picking their nose.
Could she be the date of one of my guy friends? Like Jack, maybe? He was always dating a new girl. I quickly brought up his Facebook. Nope--his current girlfriend had curly hair and beautiful chocolate skin. Not her.
"I don't recognize her. She's got to be a wedding crasher."
Jeff and I had gotten married three weeks ago. We'd just gotten our wedding photos back. I'd braced myself for surprises--ones that made me look like I had a double chin, or shots of my 60-year-old parents shaking it out on the dance floor--but I didn't expect this.
"I can't believe it. This was our special day. And this rando thinks she can just come crash it?"
"I'm sorry, Jess."
"She could've had the decency to look at me as I walked down the aisle, at least," I grumbled.
I clicked away from the photo, trying to forget about her and just enjoy the photos. A few more photos of the ceremony. She wasn't in them. I lingered on the photos of us and the bridal party, my heart glowing.
Then I got to the reception photos.
She stuck out like a sore thumb. Standing there, behind the table of my high school friends. Facing away from the camera. Standing oddly still.
"That's her!"
I jabbed the computer screen so hard, the image rippled.
"Well, obviously she'd be at the reception. Free food. I'm surprised she went to the ceremony at all."
I clicked to the next photo. She wasn't in it. I breathed a sigh of relief.
No, wait.
I zoomed in. My friend Libby, sitting at the table, had a glass of wine pressed to her lips. I flicked back to the previous photo. Libby was lifting the glass towards her lips.
"These two photos were taken within a few seconds of each other. And she's just… gone?"
Jeff shrugged. "She probably just got her food and skedaddled."
I clicked through the next several photos. She wasn't in them. Feeling a little bit better, I clicked through the rest and landed on a portrait of the two of us, standing in the middle of the reception hall.
"Look at us! You look beautiful."
"Aww, thank--"
My breath caught in my throat.
At the edge of the photo, there was a hand touching my shoulder. Just the tips of the fingers, the rest out of view.
Pale, thin fingers. Not thick, ruddy ones like Jeff's.
I stared at the computer. My heart pounded in my chest.
"Jess? Are you okay?"
His voice sounded so far away.
"Her fingers…" I said, softly. "Her fingers are on my shoulder."
"What?" Jeff took the laptop, squinting at the screen. "That's just my hand, Jess."
"Your hand looks nothing like that."
"How can you even tell? It's just the tips of the fingers."
"Tips of a woman's fingers."
"They're obviously my fingers."
"No, they're not!" I grabbed the laptop from him. Forced myself to look at the photo. "Look. Your arm is going down. Like it's wrapped around my waist."
"Your waist isn't even in the frame."
"Yeah, but you can tell from the angle! If your hand was resting on my shoulder like that, it would be up more."
"Jess. It's obviously my hand." He sighed and wrapped his arms around me. Speaking in a softer tone, he said: "Look, someone crashed our wedding. That sucks, a lot. But I think you're overreacting a little."
I shot him a glare.
Then I pulled out my phone and dialed Amanda's number. It took three rings for her to pick up.
"Amanda? Who was sitting next to you at my wedding?"
"Oh, hi Jess," she said in her slow, southern drawl. "Oh, well you sat us with Uncle Bob and Aunt Margie--"
"No, at the ceremony."
"Well, I was sitting alone, dear. I purposely chose to. Didn't want my kids hasslin' anyone."
"No. There was a woman in the same pew as you. Tall, black hair…"
"No, dear, it was just me and Will and the kids. I mean, at least I don't remember seeing anyone else."
I talked to Amanda another ten minutes, then said I had to go. I collapsed onto the couch next to Jeff, leaned my head against his shoulder.
Jeff reached over and rubbed my shoulders. My eyes flickered closed, and my breathing slowed.
"Don't worry about it, babe."
Don't worry about some woman creeping on you at your wedding?
"It's all okay."
I didn't know what was going on, but I didn't like Jeff's tone. The way he was speaking to me like something fragile, easily broken. "I'm going to take a shower," I said, getting up from the sofa abruptly.
I slammed the bathroom door behind me and started to run the water. Peeled off my clothes and stared at myself in the mirror. Steam clouded out from the shower, and I stepped in. The hot water hit my back, running down my body, and the stress began to fade away.
I reached for the shampoo. Scrubbed it in. Rinsed it out. Stood under the stream of water and let it run over my face for seconds, minutes. Then I turned off the water and began to step out.
I glanced down—and froze.
Collecting around the bathtub drain was a tangled clump of black hair.
Before I could react—thin, cold fingers grabbed my shoulder. Pushed. I slipped on the wet ceramic, my body falling with a painful crack. Pain shot through my body like fire.
As I pulled myself up, grimacing in pain, eight words repeated in my head.
Something old, something new. Something borrowed, something blue.
The silver barrette I borrowed from Jeff’s mom. The one she insisted I borrow, saying it was a family heirloom. That she said Jeff’s sister refused to wear, and it would mean the world to her if I carried out the tradition.
The one that had a few straight, black hairs stuck in it.

2020.12.04 18:18 UpbeatOrchit 22 [M4F] Netherlands/Anywhere, and so, the search for my 'person' continues. This time without a terrible and cheesy title.

I've posted here quite a few times before, but since I'm still looking for my 'person', I figured I'd try again. I'll keep it as compact and easy to read as possible!
What do I look like/who am I?: I'm a 22-year-old guy from the Netherlands (Born and raised!) I'm 5'11", have an average build (Perhaps a tad bit skinny), brown hair, a short beard, and glasses. My hair is a little shorter now than on the images, but here I am!
My hobbies and interests: I definitely fall in the nerd category. Anything fantasy, sci-fi, or history-related will probably interest me. I play DnD (Usually as DM and in Dark Fantasy settings because they're the best!), I play a lot of games on the PC, right now mostly Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft. Since I own over 360 games, you could say there are a lot of games that I do enjoy. Other than that I play Warhammer 40k (The tabletop version), paint miniatures, for Warhammer and DnD for example, and to make sure I do work out occasionally, I play Airsoft (The selfie is in my airsoft attire, not actual military clothing.) On top of all of that, I have two cats. One of them is always hungry, and the other one is fat and really.. -really- dumb.
I mean like.. REALLY. Dumb. You get the idea.~ When it comes to music I listen to all sorts of genres, yet tend to lean mostly toward metal and its various subgenres there.
My personality: I would say I am very easy going. I don't get offended easily and am pretty open-minded in general. I am definitely an introvert. Sitting by myself at home is something I don't mind at all, even if I do enjoy company! Also! I'd definitely say I am a bit of a hopeless romantic. If I like someone. I'd love to spend a lot of time with them.
What I do for a living: Currently, I'm looking for a new job. I have a degree in coding but since It's something I don't enjoy. I am looking around to see if I can find something that I do enjoy!
What am I looking for?: Well, obviously my 'person'! I am looking for someone who keeps in contact a lot. If you struggle with replying to messages without it taking a day, this probably isn't for you! Other than that I am looking for someone who enjoys affection, in the sense of bad flirting, cheesy jokes, and compliments, as well as physical affection. Someone who shares some of my interests. If I am dating someone who lives all the way over in freaking Narnia or something. I do want them to enjoy playing PC games since that is one of the few things you can do a lot without it getting dull!
I think that sums it up quite nicely! Feel free to shoot a message my way if you're interested and tell me something about yourself while you're at it!

BEING A SEASONED COMPANY MEANS EVERYTHING TO CONSUMERS

We are a seasoned heating and cooling company in Dubuque, Iowa. “Seasoned” means experienced, and this company’s experience in the heating and cooling industry spans over years of service to the community. We have been in business for more than 30 years. Since 1985, I have provided and continue to provide unparalleled services to commercial and residential property owners. Since 2002, we have been providing, as an option, geothermal services to all our customers. There are a host of companies providing services in heating and cooling near me. However, not all companies offer heating and cooling services with as much experience and expertise. My company and the NATE-certified technicians I employ are highly trained and seasoned professionals who are providing a wide range of quality services. I am proud to say that our consumer base is vast, and we service some of the largest companies in our Tri-State area. Gradually, over the years, my technicians bonded with our customers, building an unparalleled trust, offering quality workmanship in all areas, whether it is tearing out old systems, installing new systems or making repairs. My company has been out in the field meeting all of our customers’ needs in a timely manner at affordable pricing. If your company is small, you get the same degree of service and attention as the larger businesses. Smaller businesses and private residents offer so much to the community that they are just as essential and vital to my company. For over 30 years, we have been locally owned and managed. Our goal is to provide everyone with quality service at competitive and affordable prices.

LONGEVITY OF A BUSINESS DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN UP-TO-DATE PRACTICES

Just because we say we have been in business for over 30 years does not mean our experience is 30 years old. Our experience in the heating and cooling industry reaches far beyond 30 years. The combined expertise of all our technicians and owners spans more than 100 years. The owner alone has been in the in the heating and cooling industry since 1977; that alone is 42 years of experience and expertise that he brings to the table every day! And he am still learning. All the technicians at All Seasons are highly educated and qualified to meet all the heating and cooling issues that come our way. We learn new concepts every year in the heating and cooling industry and pass this knowledge on to our customer base. We have a lot of excellent heating and cooling companies in the area. However, there are no other heating and cooling near me that offers so many years of quality, experienced, and affordable services to our community in the Dubuque, Iowa area. Our Expertise and Experience Count! All Seasons Heating & Cooling always obtains and uses the best equipment and tools to get the job done. We use state-of-the-art in-house fabrication and precision plasma-cutting equipment. This equipment allows us to perfectly customize parts and systems for installation. We sit down with customers to find out how we can better serve their needs and help them choose the right products to meet their needs, whether they are private single-home residents, small business owners, or giant corporations. Everyone gets the same undivided, unparalleled attention to detail, as we meet individual, industrial and business’s needs precisely. The brands we use are quality brands of products that last for years into the future to give timely and reliable service. One brand we use is Lennox, a proven name in the heating and cooling industry. We are a certified Lennox Premier Dealer because we want to provide our customer base with one of the very best and reliable products on the market today. While there are excellent products on the market, we have found that no product is the same or offers the same benefits as the Lennox brand. As a Lennox dealer, we make sure that we are highly and specially trained in all Lennox products. I do not know if any other services for heating and cooling near me provide such in-depth training and ongoing education as our company. This training is not a one-time training session; this education continues to meet the demands of newer innovations and creations by the Lennox manufacturer.

WHEN HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING COMPANIES DO EVERYTHING RIGHT

Consumers know where they can go to get heating and cooling services that provide quality artistry, high work ethics, and affordable prices promptly. Companies that consistently grow and prosper are doing everything right, and the consumer knows this element. Since we have been in business, we have added over 30 trucks to our fleet to meet the industrial needs of the Tri-State area. We know of no other company in heating and cooling near me showing such tremendous growth and popularity. Our company answers calls for heating and cooling help during regular business hours and emergency calls 24/7 as soon as possible. We have seen our emergency calls decrease when our NATE-certified technicians explain to the customer how to benefit from a cost-effective and preventative maintenance program.

“GO GREEN”

We see more and more of our customers taking advantage of “Going Green.” We are doing our part in helping the environment as we offer eco-friendly options for heating and cooling systems. Not all companies providing services and installations for heating and cooling near me offer the newest innovation in this industry: geothermal technology. Even though this money-saving system has been around since 2004, consumers are recently beginning to understand all the benefits this system offers. Large corporations to smaller businesses to individual citizens and new “Green” home contractors inquire about and want this money-saving and eco-friendly system in their home and business, so they call us. All Seasons Heating & Cooling is a leader in this exciting and somewhat new concept of heating and cooling systems. The percentages of energy bills saved with this system on a yearly basis are off the charts. No other company providing heating and cooling near me offers the experience and expertise our company provides with this newer technology in the home and workplace. Give us a call today, and let us know how we can best fit your heating and cooling needs. Consider “Going Green” to become part of the eco-friendly environment. We are “Going Green” one home and one business at a time.
